Hong Kong Microelectronics Research and Development Institute (MRDI) is established to seize the huge potential market for third-generation semiconductors and align with the national strategy for technological development.

The MRDI is looking for a dynamic and high-calibre professional to fill the position of Engineer, HVAC (Semiconductor FAB).
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
• Operate, monitor and optimize plant HVAC systems, including air handling units (AHUs), chillers, cooling towers, exhaust systems, airflow distribution, and temperature/humidity and cleanliness control.
• Plan and execute preventive maintenance (PM) and corrective maintenance (CM) for HVAC equipment; schedule annual servicing and statutory tests; manage procurement, tendering and supervision of external maintenance contractors.
• Participate in HVAC system design reviews, drawings and electrical/control interface integration; coordinate interfaces with FMCS/PLC, Building Management System (BMS), refrigerant systems and monitoring systems.
• Lead or support system upgrades, energy-efficiency improvements and optimization projects (e.g., chiller optimization, VFD control, heat recovery, system tuning).
• Prepare and maintain HVAC SOPs, test reports, equipment inspection records and engineering documentation to support ISO 9001 / ISO 14644 and other audits.
• Provide immediate technical support during cleanroom or process environment abnormalities; participate in emergency response and root-cause analysis with safety and process teams.
• Develop annual maintenance and capital improvement budgets; perform cost-benefit assessments and implement cost-saving or risk-reduction measures.
• Provide training to operators and maintenance personnel on HVAC operation, maintenance and safety.
• Perform administrative support and other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
REQUIREMENTS
• Bachelor's degree or above in Mechanical, HVAC, Energy Engineering, Electrical or related engineering discipline.
• Minimum 3 years' experience in HVAC system design, operation or maintenance in semiconductor fabs, cleanrooms or precision manufacturing; experience with 8"/12" fabs is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of HVAC system principles (AHU, chillers, cooling towers, piping, refrigerants), cleanroom airflow/pressure control, temperature/humidity control and particulate/microbial cleanliness metrics.
• Capability in HVAC system design and drawing review; proficient with AutoCAD or similar design tools; able to read electrical and control diagrams.
• Experience with BMS, PLCs, HVAC control logic and monitoring system integration; familiar with energy-saving control strategies and energy performance analysis.
• Familiarity with relevant regulations and standards (local building/fire/environment codes, refrigerant management, OHS); knowledge of cleanroom standards (ISO is a plus.
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills; able to respond promptly in shifts and emergency situations and coordinate cross-functional teams.
• Willingness to work shifts and be on standby for emergency response.
• Good command in English and Chinese (both Putonghua and Cantonese).
Note: Candidate with more experience will also be considered for senior position.
The initial employment contract spans 12 months and can be renewed with a longer tenure upon mutual agreement of the incumbent and MRDI. The incumbent will normally work five days a week. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. A gratuity of 15% of the salary will be awarded upon satisfactory completion of the contract.
