Title: Linux System Admin/Engineer
Location: Toronto, ON (4days/Hybrid)
Duration: Long term assignment
Core Responsibilities
Platform Engineering & Operations
• Ensure high availability, performance, and security of compute, storage, and network for CDE platforms; implement patching/vulnerability remediation and DR/backup strategies.
• Administer platform services and automation (e.g., environment build/teardown, job orchestration, logging/monitoring dashboards).
• Monitor systems proactively, triage incidents, drive root?cause analysis, and execute recovery playbooks (including historical file recovery and system failure recovery).
Data Platform & Pipeline Enablement
• Support ETL production operations: job monitoring, failure triage/recovery, deployment reviews, and environment setup for data pipelines.
• Partner with data engineering and DBA teams to scale platform capacity, optimize performance, and coordinate changes/upgrades.
Security, Compliance & Governance
• Implement and operate platform security controls (access management, encryption, audit logging) and ensure compliance with enterprise standards.
Required Qualifications
• 5+ years in systems/platform engineering or SRE within data/analytics or mission critical environments.
• Hands on with Linux systems administration, networking fundamentals, storage/backup/DR, and infrastructure automation.
• Experience operating production data platforms: environment provisioning, monitoring/alerting, change/incident/problem management, and release practices.
• Strong grasp of security controls in enterprise environments (access controls, patching/vuln management, encryption, audit).
Nice to Have
• Cloud ecosystem (VMs, Private Link, Monitor/Logs), Databricks (jobs, clusters, SQL Warehouse, Unity Catalog), and/or Microsoft Fabric.
• Ab Initio pipelines and AutoSys scheduling (ops support, deployments, environment setup).
• Data governance/metadata tooling (e.g., Alation) and observability practices for data platforms.
