Overview
The Network Cabling Infrastructure Technician is responsible for the installation, testing, labeling, and maintenance of structured cabling systems that support data, voice, and video networks. This role ensures all cabling infrastructure meets industry standards, safety requirements, and project specifications while supporting reliable network performance across client or organizational environments.
Key Responsibilities
• Cabling Installation & Infrastructure
• Install, terminate, and test structured cabling systems including Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A, and fiber optic cabling
• Install and dress cables in accordance with TIA/EIA and BICSI standards
• Perform cable terminations on patch panels, keystone jacks, and network racks
• Install and mount racks, cabinets, cable trays, ladder racks, and conduit
• Testing, Labeling & Documentation
• Test copper and fiber cabling using approved certification and testing equipment
• Label cables, patch panels, and ports according to established standards
• Document cabling layouts, cable paths, and test results
• Update as-built documentation and network diagrams as required
Maintenance & Troubleshooting
• Diagnose and repair cabling issues including damaged cables, interference, and connectivity failures
• Perform cable moves, adds, and changes (MACs)
• Support troubleshooting efforts for network connectivity issues
• Remove or remediate unused or abandoned cabling
Safety & Compliance
• Follow all safety procedures including ladder use, ceiling work, and confined spaces
• Comply with local building codes, fire codes, and safety regulations
• Ensure proper grounding and bonding of racks and equipment
• Maintain clean, organized, and professional job sites
Project & Client Coordination
• Work closely with project managers, network engineers, and clients
• Provide accurate status updates on assigned tasks and projects
• Identify and escalate scope changes or site issues
• Represent the company professionally on job sites
Required Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent
• 2+ years of experience in structured cabling or low-voltage installation
• Working knowledge of copper and fiber cabling standards
• Ability to read and interpret floor plans and network diagrams
• Comfortable working in ceilings, crawl spaces, and equipment rooms
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites
Preferred Qualifications
• BICSI Installer certification (or equivalent)
• Experience with fiber termination and testing (single-mode and multi-mode)
• Experience working in commercial environments (office, healthcare, education, construction)
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
Physical Requirements
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
• Ability to climb ladders and work at heights
• Ability to kneel, bend, and stand for extended periods
• Ability to work in varying environmental conditions
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $50,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
