Job Duties:
The Systems Engineer is responsible for effective troubleshooting, provisioning, installing/configuring, operating, and maintaining system hardware and software and related infrastructure in a mixed MS/Linux environment. The successful candidate must also have some Python programming skills to update scripts or applications as needed. This individual will assist project teams with technical issues. Participation on projects is focused on smoothing the transition of projects from development staff to production staff by performing operations activities within the project life-cycle.
Responsibilities: Install new/rebuild existing Linux based servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements. Provide support per request from various constituencies. Investigate and troubleshoot issues. Repair and recover from hardware or software failures. Coordinate and communicate with impacted constituencies. Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures. Research and recommend innovative, and where possible automated approaches for system administration tasks. Identify approaches that leverage our resources and provide economies of scale. Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs. Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required.
Experience:
Bachelor’s degree, with a technical major. 2-3 years system administration experience with Linux and Windows operating systems. Must be capable of troubleshooting complex OS and connectivity issues. Preference will be given to candidates with Python OOP experience. Must be able to interact with management stakeholders. Must be able to occasionally work evenings and weekends in order to accommodate global stakeholder requirements.
