About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Solutions Designer with deep experience in data warehousing, ETL, and business intelligence solutions to support large-scale public sector initiatives. This role focuses on designing, developing, and optimizing data integration and analytics solutions using Oracle, SQL Server, Informatica, and Cognos, while working closely with both technical teams and business stakeholders.
You will contribute across the full solution lifecycle — from requirements analysis and solution design through development, testing, deployment, and knowledge transfer.
Key Responsibilities
• Design and develop enterprise data and hosting solutions aligned with client standards, policies, and best practices
• Participate in the analysis, design, development, and unit testing of ETL components (mappings, workflows, data marts)
• Develop and maintain ETL routines, scripts, and migration processes
• Optimize database performance, including query tuning, indexing, partitioning, and configuration
• Support Oracle to SQL Server schema and code conversions
• PL/SQL to T-SQL (procedures, functions, packages, triggers)
• Participate in design reviews, code walkthroughs, and solution reviews
• Develop, test, and deploy full solution code packages using version control tools
• Collaborate with architects, developers, analysts, and business users to ensure solutions meet requirements
• Support system, integration, and user acceptance testing (SIT, SAT, UAT)
• Develop and maintain technical, system, and design documentation
• Support change requests, deployments, and operational handover
• Ensure solutions comply with Ontario government standards, security policies, and architectural guidelines
• Perform knowledge transfer to internal staff prior to project completion
Required Experience & Qualifications
• 8–10+ years of experience as a Solutions Designer, Data Architect, or Senior ETL Developer
• Proven experience designing and implementing Informatica ETL solutions
• Strong experience working in environments using Oracle, Informatica, and Cognos together
• Extensive experience with:
• Oracle 11.x / 12.x
• SQL Server
• PL/SQL and T-SQL
• Strong experience with data warehousing and BI solutions
• Experience with data transfer and integration technologies, including:
• SSIS, SSRS, SSAS
• Microsoft MQ
• Hands-on experience using PowerDesigner to review data models and generate DDL scripts
• Experience developing star schema and multi-dimensional data models
• Strong SQL performance tuning and query optimization skills
• Experience analyzing and working with large, complex, high-volume data sets
• Experience with version control and deployment tools (e.g., TFS, Azure DevOps, VSS)
• Experience working across Agile and Waterfall delivery methodologies
• Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Technical Skills
• ETL tools: Informatica, SSIS, Talend (or similar)
• BI & Analytics: Cognos, Power BI
• Databases: Oracle, SQL Server
• Data formats: relational, XML, JSON, CSV, Excel
• Unix shell scripting
• Data profiling, KPI development, and visualization
• Familiarity with cloud data platforms (Azure, Databricks) is an asset
• Experience with AODA / WCAG compliance is an asset
