Our Directed-Energy Research Centre’s priorities include: • Cutting-edge high-power electromagnetic solutions • Innovative high-energy laser systems • Advanced acoustic technologies • Pulsed power technologies • Particle beams and plasma physics • Antennas and metamaterials • Radar and remote-sensing technologies Job Description: The Directed Energy Research Center of the Technology and Innovation Institute is looking for a Senior Optics Engineer. He/She is responsible for performing research and development activities related to design and experimental validation of laser system optics. The job includes traveling overseas, on occasion for short periods, to participate in conferences, visits of suppliers or partners, trainings. Responsibilities: Main responsibilities include: • Design and development of optical systems, including lens design, optical alignment, and system integration. • Validation of designs (experiments and measurements). • Results and project reporting. • Interacting with scientific partners and suppliers. • Perform tolerancing studies. • Hands-on troubleshooting and root cause analysis using engineering/physics principles. • Responsible for completion on time of assigned tasks and meeting technical requirements. • Participating in design reviews and clearly articulating design concepts. • Working collaboratively with project team members. • Participating in multidisciplinary discussions within the activity domain of DERC. Skills: • Proficiency in Zemax with relevant experience in complex optical system design. • Experience in analytical systems design, simulation, and experimental validation. • Experimental design and instruments automation experience. • Experience in alignment of optics. • Experience with adaptive optics. • Experience with optics at CW and pulsed regimes. • Experience setting up and maintaining optical equipment. • Experience with supplier discussions. • Hands-on experience with optical setup building (alignment, prototypes validation). • Experience in laser/optics measurements (wavefront, beam intensity…). • Design and/or hands-on experience with high-power laser optics and coatings. • Experience performing tolerancing and optimization studies. • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a research team with effective oral and written communication skills. • Ability to work in clean rooms (ISO7 class) in accordance to the laser safety international standards. Qualifications: To qualify for this position, you will need to meet the following requirements: • Bachelor’s degree in Optical Engineering or similar. • Prior experience in optical engineering or optical related technologies (at least 2 years). • Understanding of optical integration techniques and considerations. • Ability to assist or perform alone functional testing, data capture, alignment verification, etc. • Good level of English (speaking and writing).
