Job Overview
Torus Biomedical is building a real-time AI guidance system for orthopaedic surgery, using only standard intraoperative X-rays — no CT, no tracking hardware. Our platform combines proprietary calibration and tracking, machine learning, and 3D anatomical modeling to deliver fast, accurate intraoperative decision support for surgical teams.
We’re hiring a senior engineer to lead the development of our machine learning and data pipelines — from image processing and model training to validation, benchmarking, and deployment. You’ll work closely with a small, fast-moving team to shape how surgical imaging data is used, analyzed, and integrated into our product.
Responsibilities
• Design and scale ML pipelines for radiographic image analysis, segmentation, landmark detection, and 3D pose estimation
• Build tools for 3D data visualization and analysis, including meshes, voxel volumes, and full-scene models of operative anatomy
• Develop systems for model evaluation, validation, and selection based on clinical performance metrics
• Support full-stack integration of ML components into our ConfirMap surgical AI software platform
• Contribute to the deployment of robust, production-grade models and algorithms within a regulated environment
Required Qualifications
• 5–10 years of experience in machine learning, computer vision, or medical imaging
• Strong understanding of data and ML pipeline design, from preprocessing to model training and deployment
• Deep knowledge of 2D/3D image data, especially radiographic and CT imaging
• Hands-on experience developing and validating models for segmentation, registration, and pose estimation
• Expertise in Python and libraries such as PyTorch, OpenCV, SimpleITK, VTK, PyVista, NumPy, scikit-learn
• Familiarity with tools such as 3D Slicer for visualization, labeling, and planning workflows
Additional Preferred Qualifications
• Background in biomedical engineering, robotics, orthopaedics, or medical physics
• Experience with full-stack development for internal tools or production software
• Familiarity with IEC 62304 or other medical device software standards
• Experience with fluoroscopy simulation or radiographic forward modeling
This is a chance to build something that will fundamentally change how surgery is performed. It’s not a research prototype — it’s a real system going into real ORs, with real impact. We offer competitive compensation, full technical ownership, and the opportunity to shape the future of surgical AI from the ground up. If you're done with corporate inertia and want to move fast and build boldly, this is your moment.
