Job Summary
The IT Project and Performance Specialist plays a critical role in leading, coordinating, and overseeing the successful delivery of IT and cross-functional business initiatives. This position combines project management discipline, performance tracking, process mapping, and continuous improvement to drive effective execution and alignment with organizational strategy.
This role partners across IT, Operations, Finance, and business units to define project scope, map and optimize processes, identify improvement opportunities, and ensure timely communication of progress. This role requires an ability to tailor messaging for varied audiences-from technical teams to senior leadership-and excel at working across diverse functional groups.
The position requires strong project leadership skills, hands-on experience with tools such as Azure DevOps (ADO) and Monday.com, and familiarity with Agile, Waterfall, and hybrid methodologies. Experience in oil & gas operations, exposure to enterprise IT environments, and the ability to summarize and report initiative outcomes are essential.
The IT Project and Performance Specialist will be based in the Houston Corporate Office, with the option to work remotely up to two days per week as business needs allow.
Responsibilities
• End-to-End Project Delivery: Lead planning, execution, and delivery of IT and cross-functional business initiatives, ensuring alignment with scope, timeline, quality, and strategic goals
• Process Mapping & Optimization: Document current-state processes and identify inefficiencies, clarify handoffs, and recommend improvements that enhance performance and business value
• Performance Tracking & Reporting: Monitor initiative status, risks, budget, and milestones using tools such as Azure DevOps (ADO); provide clear, concise reports and dashboards for communication on progress to stakeholders
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with IT, Operations, Finance, and other business units to define requirements, remove barriers, and ensure shared understanding of project objectives and progress
• Stakeholder Communication: Tailor messaging for technical, operational, and executive audiences; prepare and deliver presentations, summaries, steering committee updates, and project documentation
• Governance & Compliance: Adhere to Murphy Oil methodologies including Agile, Waterfall, and hybrid models; support IT SOX compliance and ensure appropriate controls and documentation
• Portfolio & Performance Support: Contribute to portfolio-level views of IT initiatives, enabling prioritization, resource alignment, and progress reporting across the enterprise
• Issue & Risk Management: Identify risks proactively, facilitate solutions, escalate when appropriate, and guide teams through resolution to maintain project momentum
• Continuous Improvement: Recommend and implement improvements to project management processes, reporting tools, templates, and governance frameworks
• Ad Hoc Duties: Support related project, portfolio, or organizational needs as required
Licenses/Certifications
Project Management Professional (PMP), Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP, CSM), or equivalent preferred
Qualifications/Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Business, or a related field.
• Minimum in 12 years of industry experience, preferably across multiple functions
• Minimum 5 years of project management experience, preferably in an enterprise environment, working across various functions
• Experience with software, hardware, infrastructure, or digital transformation projects.
• Exposure to oil & gas operations (preferred)
• Strong understanding of IT ecosystems including cloud, cybersecurity, networking, data platforms, enterprise applications, and digital technologies
• Hands-on use of Azure DevOps (ADO or similar tools for project execution and tracking
• Familiarity with Agile (Scrum, iterative), Waterfall, and hybrid project methodologies
• Ability to create detailed process maps and documentation
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to tailor messages by audience
• Strong organizational and time-management abilities
• Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently in dynamic environments
• Experience collaborating with offshore teams
The individual is required to follow all applicable safety precautions. Work is performed almost entirely in a controlled (i.e., inside) environment and does not typically subject the incumbent to any hazardous/extreme elements; some positions may require regularly moving or transporting items weighing up to 25 lbs. around the office for various needs. The successful candidate must be able to complete all essential physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
