IP/MPLS Network Architect
Location: Burnaby, British Columbia
Contract Length: 1 year
Pay Rate: CA$101.70/hour (T4 classification; INC classification considered)
Base pay range: CA$101.70/yr - CA$123.71/yr
Responsibilities
• Architectural Design: Develop high‑level and detailed IP/MPLS network architecture for telecom systems.
• Ensure designs meet utility‑specific requirements for SCADA, protection relays, and other critical OT applications.
• Incorporate redundancy, resiliency, secure and failover mechanisms suitable for mission‑critical operations.
• Technology Integration: Design interoperability with legacy TDM systems and migration strategies to IP/MPLS.
• Define integration points with IT networks while maintaining strict OT security boundaries.
• Evaluate existing network infrastructure and identify gaps.
• Recommend hardware platforms, software versions, and protocols aligned with utility standards.
• Security & Compliance: Incorporate cybersecurity best practices (NERC CIP, IEC and ensure compliance with regulatory and internal standards.
• Documentation: Deliver detailed design documents, topology diagrams, configuration guidelines, high‑level architecture documents, design templates, engineering standards, IP addressing, routing, MPLS VPN design, QoS, traffic engineering design, lab verification, migration and implementation plans, test report and engineering memo.
Qualifications
• 10 years in telecom network design, with at least 5 years in utility or critical infrastructure.
• Experience bridging modern IP networks with legacy TDM systems and leading the transition from legacy transport to IP‑based MPLS without interrupting grid operations.
• Strong knowledge of IP/MPLS technologies: LDP, RSVP‑TE, Segment Routing, QoS, MPLS VPNs.
• Hands‑on experience with Nokia IP/MPLS platforms (e.g., 7750 SR, NSP).
• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or Telecommunications.
• Must have Nokia NRS II or Nokia Certified Service Routing Architect (SRA). CCIE/JNCIE or similar advanced certifications are assets.
• Cybersecurity certifications (CISSP, ISA/IEC are assets.
Additional Information
• Contractor must supply own Windows 11 laptop and Smart Phone for the assignment.
• Regular travel within the region may be required.
