Job Details Title: Backend Engineer (10+ Years Experience) Location: Toronto, Canada (Remote – candidate must be based in Toronto) Duration of the Contract: 12+ Months Pay Rate: Open, DOE Client Industry: Lottery / Gaming Skills Required • Backend development using Java • AWS Lambda • API Gateway • Microservices architecture • GitLab • PACT testing • Tailwind CSS (preferred) • Experience working with Lottery or Gaming clients (preferred) • 7+ years of overall backend development experience (10+ years preferred) • Excellent communication skills • Strong stakeholder management experience • Customer-facing experience Job Description We are seeking an experienced Backend Engineer to join a high-performing team supporting a Lottery/Gaming client. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in Java-based backend systems, cloud-native development, and microservices architecture, along with the ability to collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Key Responsibilities • Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services using Java and AWS Lambda • Build and manage APIs using AWS API Gateway • Implement and support microservices-based architectures • Ensure high-quality code through PACT testing, code reviews, and CI/CD pipelines using GitLab • Collaborate with frontend, QA, DevOps, and business teams to deliver end-to-end solutions • Participate in architecture discussions and contribute to technical decision-making • Engage with client stakeholders in a customer-facing capacity to gather requirements and provide technical guidance • Ensure systems meet security, performance, and reliability standards required for Lottery/Gaming platforms Preferred Qualifications • Prior experience working in Lottery, Gaming, or highly regulated environments • Exposure to Tailwind CSS and collaboration with frontend teams • Strong understanding of cloud-native and serverless architectures • Ability to mentor junior engineers and lead by example Staffworxs is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
