JOB SUMMARY We are seeking a skilled Systems Software Engineer to support the programming, commissioning, and delivery of Building Management System (BMS) solutions for assigned projects. This role applies technical expertise in database programming, custom graphics development, and system integration to support successful project execution. The Systems Software Engineer plays a key role in system startup, commissioning, troubleshooting, and documentation, and works closely with Project Managers and Project Engineering staff to ensure projects are completed on time, within scope, and to quality standards. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS • Serve as a lead Systems Software Engineer for the development and implementation of lower- and mid-level control system databases and programs. • Support initial system point-to-point commissioning and startup activities. • Troubleshoot local and wide area network (LAN/WAN) issues as they arise during project execution. • Utilize computer hardware and software tools to perform pre-functional testing of system software code in alignment with the project’s sequence of operations. • Participate in and support final system functional testing, including standard testing and third-party, LEED, and Title 24 requirements, as applicable. • Maintain working knowledge of multiple vendor software platforms and versions. • Develop and apply skills to support third-party integrations involving other vendor products, systems, and communication protocols. • Provide field coordination and leadership for installing subcontractors on projects where a Project Engineer is not assigned. • Attend and actively participate in required field coordination, commissioning, and project meetings for assigned projects. • Lead and support end-user and customer training on building automation systems for assigned projects. • Manage the structured turnover of projects from the construction phase to the Service team. • Assist Design Engineers by validating sequences of operations against design-build and contract requirements. • Coordinate with project staff to ensure accurate and timely documentation of project costs, including time tracking and daily reports. • Manage field time and budgets related to assigned project work. • Provide leadership for field teams on mid-sized projects involving multiple team members. • Communicate effectively with internal team members regarding project status, risks, and information needs. • Complete required OSHA 10 and OSHA 30 safety training programs. • Maintain safe work practices and comply with company and project-specific safety requirements. • Coach, mentor, and support the professional development of junior Systems Software Engineers. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE • Associate degree in a technical field or 2–5 years of related experience in building automation systems. Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering is preferred. • Strong mechanical aptitude; technical school training is a plus. • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Windows operating systems, and file structures. Familiarity with basic TCP/IP networking concepts and web navigation is preferred. • Highly organized with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities and meeting project schedules. • Demonstrated ability to work independently, take ownership of assigned tasks, and deliver high-quality results. • Valid California driver’s license required. • Strong commitment to customer satisfaction and quality workmanship. • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Reasonable accommodations may be provided.) • Regularly required to sit and stand, use hands to operate a computer keyboard and telephone, and communicate verbally and audibly. • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and climb ladders as required. • Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds, frequently exert up to 20 pounds of force, and consistently exert up to 10 pounds of force to move objects. • Ability to climb ladders frequently. • Must be able to safely navigate active construction sites while adhering to company and site-specific safety policies. COMPETITIVE WAGES: $108,000 to $135,000 Annual Salary. Applicants please note that actual compensation is determined by several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to job-related skills, depth of experience, certifications, relevant education or training, and specific work location, among others. The offered wage or salary is only one aspect of an employee's total compensation.
