The West Vancouver Permits & Inspections Department is currently seeking a Permanent Full-time Supervisor – Residential Plans Examiner to join our highly qualified team. Reporting to the Supervisor/Senior Plans Examiner, the successful candidate will be responsible for: • Examining permit applications for Part 9 building types (and some Part 3 as required) to ensure compliance with the BC Building Code, Municipal Bylaws, and design guidelines; • Assigning, reviewing, and supervising the work of Plans Examiners reviewing Part 9 building types; • Providing technical advice on the Zoning Bylaw with unusual and complex residential plan checking assignments; • Providing training to Plans Examiners reviewing Part 9 building types; • Coordinating the activities of the plan examination function with other departmental activities; • Support Building Inspectors in matters related to office procedures and interpretation of the BC Building Code, District regulations and bylaws, primarily related to Part 9 buildings, Single Family Dwelling, Small-scale multi-unit housing, and related zoning requirements; • Assisting with Board of Variance Hearing as required; • Performing building inspections as required; and • Performing other related duties as required The preferred candidate has completed a Diploma in Building Technology from a recognized institution, and has considerable related experience in the construction industry, the public sector, or an equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered. Membership with the Building Officials’ Association of BC is required, and a Building Level 2 or 3 certification is considered an asset. In addition, the preferred candidate is a team player who possesses: extensive working knowledge of the BC Building Code; thorough understanding of our Municipal bylaws; a demonstrated ability to deal effectively and courteously with the public; and a track record of establishing and maintaining respectful and effective professional relationships at work. The successful candidate must have a valid BC Driver’s Licence and access to a vehicle; mileage reimbursement is provided with relevant District Policy.
