Sr. PostgreSQL Database Administrator
Location : Houston, TX (On-site 4 days a week)
Salary : Open and will commensurate on experience
Must have the following : Sr. level PostgreSQL administration, high availability & disaster recovery, Linux systems administration, scripting (Python/Ruby/Perl), DevOps mindset
Responsibilities:
• Support and enhance highly available, high-performance database infrastructure for trading and research platforms
• Collaborate closely with development, investment, and infrastructure teams to design and support cross-platform database solutions
• Administer and optimize PostgreSQL environments, with exposure to Redis, ClickHouse, and Microsoft SQL
• Design, implement, and maintain backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies
• Monitor, tune, and optimize database performance, indexes, triggers, and stored procedures
• Own database-related projects end to end, from design through deployment and production support
• Apply DevOps best practices to improve automation, reliability, and scalability
Requirements:
• 5+ years of database administration experience (PostgreSQL strongly preferred; ClickHouse or FoundationDB acceptable)
• Hands-on experience with high availability architectures and disaster recovery planning
• Strong knowledge of database performance tuning and optimization
• Linux systems administration experience
• Proficiency in at least one scripting language: Python, Ruby, or Perl
• Working understanding of source control and software development lifecycle concepts
• Ability to communicate clearly with technical and non-technical teams
• Strong problem-solving skills with a structured, iterative approach
• Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience
Nice to Have:
• Experience with additional platforms: ClickHouse, FoundationDB, MSSQL, MongoDB, Redis, Neo4j
• Exposure to configuration management tools such as Chef, Terraform, or Ansible
• Familiarity with observability and monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack, AlertManager, Thanos)
• CI/CD pipeline experience
• Cloud experience with AWS and/or GCP
• Virtualization and containerization experience (VMware, Docker, Kubernetes)
• Windows systems administration background
