How You Will Contribute Support engineers in the Solution Engineering & Introduction (SE&I) team responsible for new product introduction (NPI) for all products in Ciena’s Optical Systems portfolio. SE&I is an engineering, customer-facing team that works directly with Product Development, Product Line Management, Sales Engineering and Services organizations to ensure engineering readiness in bringing our cutting-edge solutions to the market. In general, the Intern may work on any combination of these: • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to assess emerging AI technologies and propose innovative use cases for SE&I • Contribute to the adoption of AIOps technologies • Design, develop and test software tools to automate manual SE&I workflows and processes • Assist in the development of a product test-case automation suite. This includes writing code to execute scripts to run corresponding test-cases, the verification and documenting of results. • Build and maintain backend logic and scripts for the automated testing tool of optical transceivers • Help design and develop user-friendly UIs or HTML portal • Always comprehensively document their work/code and train extended team with user guides or Confluence Must Haves • Currently enrolled in Bachelor of Electrical/Software Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent engineering program • Experience with Python and Jupyter Notebook for backend scripting • Experience working with git repositories • Experience with Full Stack browser application development (React, Flask/Django) • Strong web development fundamentals using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, with hands-on experience building user interfaces that integrate with backend services • Must be an organized and meticulous team player with excellent English communication skills (verbal and written). • Capability to work with people in different time zones and cultures. Assets • Basic industry understanding of telecommunications network terminology and technology such as DWDM, optical transport, Ethernet, and OTN. • Experience with AI/Machine Learning libraries and frameworks like PyTorch. • Strong understanding of AIOps concepts, automation, and tool integration. • Basic industry understanding of northbound interfaces such NETCONF and REST API framework. Pay Range: The hourly pay range for the position is $25.00 - $34.00 Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business.
