Solution Architect Toronto, Ontario, Canada Overview Engine by Starling is the SaaS arm of Starling Bank, offering a technology platform that powers digital banking solutions worldwide. The role of a Solution Architect involves both sales and delivery phases, working closely with cross‑functional teams to design, implement, and support client solutions. Hybrid Working We have a hybrid approach to working. The preferred location is within commuting distance of our Toronto office, enabling in‑person collaboration while allowing remote work where possible. About the role As a Solution Architect you will use your deep understanding of Engine technology to explain the product, uncover client requirements, support the design of client solutions, and oversee ongoing client success. The position requires travel around North America and occasional further international travel. What you'll get to do This role blends technical expertise with strong communication and collaboration skills. You will: Become an Engine expert, mastering its architecture, technology, and functionality. Act as a trusted advisor to clients during implementation, guiding integration, best practices, and platform workflows. Collaborate with Engine Engineering and Product teams to design, build, and deliver new features—APIs, mobile journeys, and portal enhancements. Shape Engine’s product roadmap and support sales efforts through technical demos and workshops. Lead technical topics during discovery phases, communicating Engine’s capabilities to stakeholders and ensuring alignment with business needs. Work with clients and System Integrator partners to design solutions, document architecture, and manage integration landscapes. Serve as a technical champion for existing clients, providing guidance, troubleshooting, and innovative architecture solutions. Requirements Must Have Experience of end‑to‑end software engineering / solution architecture across the software delivery lifecycle. Experience with software service design and integration, such as RESTful APIs, OpenAPI, and sequence diagrams. Experience working in a client‑facing role and building stakeholder relationships. Strong interpersonal communication and collaboration skills; ability to deliver complex messaging to technical and non‑technical audiences. Nice to Have Experience with retail or business banking, core banking, card processing, or payments. Knowledge of cloud infrastructure and large‑scale cloud applications. Experience delivering and implementing core banking or large‑scale digital transformation programmes, application migration and solution integration. Proficiency with AWS or GCP, microservices, RESTful APIs, Java, and PostgreSQL. About you Collaborative and self‑motivated. Focused on delivery and client success. Comfortable working with diverse technical backgrounds. Excellent communication of technical subjects. Adaptable to a flat organisational structure and varied roles. Willing to travel nationally and internationally as required. Interview Process Interviews are a two‑way process intended to match best fit. Expect the following steps: First interview (45 min) by phone or two 30 min calls with existing Engine team members. Second Architecture interview, including a small presentation/system design (90 min). Final interview (30 min).
