Henderson Engineers is excited to welcome a Senior Mechanical Engineering Leader to our dynamic Retail Business Line. In this overarching role, you will be a senior technical leader, playing a crucial role in nurturing the growth and performance of our engineering team. Your responsibilities will encompass providing direction to a talented group of engineers, ensuring operational efficiency, and promoting technical excellence while fostering their professional growth. You will actively maintain a strong technical presence, guiding your team to realize the sector’s technical vision and strategy. Key Qualifications: • Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering field (mechanical, electrical, fire protection, or architectural) is preferred; High School Diploma or GED is required. • At least 15 years of progressive industry experience is a must. • A minimum of 3 years in a leadership or management capacity is essential. • Expertise in engineering design, A&E industry standards, codes, and design guides across various project types is required. • Well-versed in earned value, contracts, and construction methodologies. • Knowledge of current industry tools and software, including BIM modeling and project management applications, is essential. • High emotional intelligence to lead with empathy while effectively navigating performance challenges. • A strong technical aptitude and the willingness to mentor others on various systems and processes. • Proven success in developing high-performing teams; aligning them to organizational goals, and fostering cross-discipline collaboration. • Track record of facilitating connections between teams and leadership, effectively translating vision into actionable strategies. • Experience in mentoring and developing future leaders through coaching opportunities. • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for clear interaction with designers at various levels. • Outstanding critical thinking and problem-solving abilities. • Team-oriented mindset with a strong capacity for collaborative efforts and independent work as necessary. • Adaptable to shifting work environments and organizational needs. • Strong prioritization skills to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic atmosphere. • Trustworthy, capable of handling sensitive information with discretion. Preferred Qualifications: • Professional Engineering (PE) license is highly favored. • Additional relevant certifications (e.g., BEMP, CPD, etc.) are preferred. • Sustainability certifications (e.g., CDP, LEED) are advantageous. • Experience as an Engineer of Record (EOR) is preferred. Essential Responsibilities: Team Leadership & Development: • Foster a coaching culture among technical staff by setting goals aligned with organizational objectives. • Build and engage leadership teams at various levels within the sector. • Oversee performance management for the team, set expectations, and monitor sector-wide performance trends. • Collaborate proactively with leadership on business planning, capacity, and alignment to ensure effective staffing strategies. • Cultivate a safe and inclusive environment, leading through trust and impactful relationships. • Provide clear communication of discipline-specific strategies and expectations to teams. • Act as a career coach, guiding engineers on skills development and career advancement. • Ensure technical mentorship and employee relations are effectively managed within the discipline. Quality Assurance: • Manage discipline quality strategies and ensure compliance with standards. • Drive quality assurance tools, processes, and industry best practices. • Champion a continuous improvement culture, implementing innovative practices and technologies. • Support design and processes to comply with safety and environmental standards. Sector Operations: • Work with leadership on resource allocation and project scope staffing. • Monitor earned value generation and recommend data tracking tools for project optimization. • Ensure the feedback loop on initiatives, staffing, and KPIs functions effectively. • Participate in interviews for technical staff and support adherence to technical standards. • Manage operational needs, including performance evaluations and technical development. Professional Engineer & Engineer of Record (where applicable): • Meet industry standards associated with carrying a PE license and being recognized as an Engineer of Record. • Assume oversight and responsibility for project signing and sealing as EOR when enabled.
