The role involves overseeing the technical development, maintenance, and support of mainframe applications while ensuring adherence to coding standards, best practices, and project timelines. (1.) Key Responsibilities 1. Lead and mentor a team of mainframe COBOL, DB2, VSAM, JCL, and mainframe CICS developers in designing, developing, and testing mainframe applications. 2. Manage the full software development lifecycle of mainframe projects from requirements gathering to deployment. 3. Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business requirements and provide technical solutions that meet the needs of the organization. 4. Perform code reviews, enforce coding standards, and ensure the quality of deliverables. 5. Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to mainframe cobol, db2, vsam, jcl, and mainframe cics applications. 6. Stay updated on industry trends and technologies to recommend process improvements and innovative solutions. 7. Ensure compliance with security and data protection regulations in all mainframe development activities. Skill Requirements 1. Proficiency in the mainframe cobol programming language. 2. Strong knowledge of mainframe db2, vsam, and jcl. 3. Experience with mainframe cics in a production environment. 4. Solid understanding of mainframe architecture and system software. 5. Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills. 6. Strong communication and leadership abilities to effectively lead a technical team. 7. Ability to prioritize tasks and work efficiently in a fast paced environment. Position 2 Job Role: Senior Mainframe Technical Lead - Cobol Location : Edison, NJ ( 3 days onsite) Visa: USC/GC Job Description : Life insurance domain is needed for all roles Mainframe-COBOL JD : Key Responsibilities: 1. Own end-to-end solution design, impact analysis, and technical architecture for complex systems. 2. Develop, optimize, and review COBOL programs, JCL jobs, DB2 queries, and CICS transactions. 3. Lead performance tuning for batch windows, DB2 access paths, and CICS TPS optimization. 4. Manage code promotion, release planning, and ensure compliance with audit and security standards. 5. Drive modernization initiatives (API enablement, DevOps pipelines). 6. Mentor and coach junior developers; enforce coding standards and best practices. 7. Collaborate with cross-functional teams (BA, QA, Ops, DBA) and manage stakeholder expectations. 8. Provide production support leadership, RCA for critical incidents, and implement permanent fixes. 9. Prepare technical documentation, runbooks, and contribute to governance frameworks. 10. Stay updated with the latest industry trends and technologies related to mainframe development. 11. Conduct Daily Team huddle meetings and Shift handover calls Skills Required: 1. COBOL: Advanced programming, modular design, error handling, performance optimization. 2. JCL: Complex job streams, utilities (SORT, IDCAMS), scheduling dependencies. 3. DB2: Advanced SQL, stored procedures, triggers, bind/package management, performance tuning. 4. VSAM: Dataset design, IDCAMS scripting, recovery strategies. 5. CICS: Transaction design, pseudo-conversational flows, resource definitions, BMS maps. 6. Expertise in debugging tools (Abend-AID, Xpediter), File-AID, and job schedulers (CA7/Control-M). 7. Strong knowledge of SDLC, Agile practices, and change management processes. 8. Leadership in code reviews, mentoring, and technical governance.
