About the Role
We are seeking an Automation Engineer to lead the design, prototyping, and deployment of automated manufacturing systems. You will be responsible for improving production processes, implementing robotics and motion control solutions, and scaling advanced manufacturing operations.
This is a full-time, on-site role in El Segundo, CA, with opportunities to grow into leadership positions as the automation team expands.
Key Responsibilities
• Design, build, and refine automated systems to improve production rate, quality, and consistency
• Rapidly prototype low-cost, minimum viable automation solutions
• Develop control logic, wiring, and integration for electromechanical systems
• Troubleshoot and maintain automation equipment to ensure uptime and reliability
• Collaborate with engineers and machinists to optimize production cells for automation
• Plan and execute automation roadmap across programs
• Mentor and manage engineers and technicians as the team grows
• Occasionally interface with internal stakeholders and external partners to identify automation needs
Qualifications
• Must be a U.S. Person (EAR/ITAR compliant)
• 3+ years experience in manufacturing automation, including robotics, motion control, PLCs, and sensors
• Proven track record of designing, building, and scaling automated systems
• Strong CAD skills for parts, assemblies, and drawings with GD&T
• Comfortable wiring, testing, and iterating electromechanical systems
• Excellent collaboration and communication skills
• Bachelor’s or Master’s in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, or related field
• 5+ years in manufacturing automation
• Experience with composite manufacturing or similar advanced materials
• Experience automating presses, ovens, or specialized machinery
• Aerospace or defense manufacturing experience
• Onshape or other 3D CAD software experience
