**Purpose** Reporting to the Manager, Corporate Safety and Security, the Safety and Security Specialist is a key role for Rocky Mountaineer’s Safety and Security team. The purpose of this position is to be a critical contact for all RM team members. This role will work directly with RM Managers in all departments to ensure RM complies or exceeds all passenger railroad regulatory requirements, maintains and improves the safety culture throughout the company, and seeks to continuously improve upon all aspects of safety and security. This role will have key focus areas of safety & security auditing with our field teams and providing safety & security related administration and documentation support to help protect our people, resources, and assets. As a Rocky Mountaineer team member, the incumbent will be working alongside a diverse group of people who are committed to working together, supporting our values, and ensuring we are always on brand as a world class luxury rail tour company. • *_Note:_** This position is deemed Safety Sensitive and must wear required PPE as prescribed by Rocky Mountaineer and host railways. • *Key Areas of Accountability** • *Safety Coordination & Maintenance**: - Support the ongoing implementation and maintenance of company-wide Health and Safety programs. - Monitor incident reports and audits to ensure accurate content and timely completion. - Assist in creating monthly safety reports and dashboards. - Support in creating health and safety training material. - Assist in the development or revision of health and safety policies and procedures. - Provide resources and support to the workplace health & safety committees. - Provide administrative support to the safety & security department; where required. - Participate in health, safety and wellness-related projects; as assigned. - Conduct risk assessments and provide recommendations to address any risks identified. - Assist with other health, safety & security needs as required. • *Compliance and Auditing**: - Planning, creating, and supporting safety audits to ensure the effectiveness of safety management systems, processes, procedures and internal controls. - Identify and rectify safety & security risks in collaboration with RM Business Unit Leaders / managers. - Review, renew and create audits to align with current policies, procedures, standards, legal/regulatory requirements, management system requirements, contractual requirements. - Contribute to RM’s safety & security management initiatives to achieve or exceed expected results in regulatory compliance while also supporting the strong and healthy corporate safety culture. - Ensure compliance reports are generated and analyzed in the prescribed time period. - Report audit results and safety concerns along with recommendations as required. - Build strong relationships with Business Unit Leaders and advise them of RM’s safety & security initiatives to achieve or exceed expected results in regulatory compliance. - Conduct thorough investigations of reported safety and security hazards, incidents, and accidents; define contributing and root causes of reported audit findings and/or safety issues using root cause analysis tools. - Conduct System Quality Assurance audits to evaluate the overall effectiveness of safety-critical functions within the operation. - Audit the effectiveness of corrective action taken to remedy safety incidents and hazards. - Maintain the confidentiality of organizational safety reporting systems and information acquired in the course of audit duties. - Participate in periodic departmental safety meetings. - Actively participate in RM’s Safety Management System (SMS) including, reporting hazards and incidents encountered in daily operations; understand, comply, and promote the Company Safety Policy. - Any other duties as assigned. • *Qualifications** • *Education/Certifications/Knowledge** - University degree in related field is preferred, however, equivalent work experience will be considered - Knowledge of safety management systems, internal auditing standards and guidance such as ISO 45001 and ISO 19001, regulatory affairs and regulatory compliance • *Experience** - 3-5 years’ experience in compliance auditing / safety management systems - Experience within the passenger railroad / airline / cruise industry; is an asset - Experience working within the luxury travel industry; is an asset - Experience in safety standards, safety planning, operational risk assessment, and/or regulatory compliance within the transportation field is an asset • *Skills** - Leadership ability to positively influence safety culture throughout various operations group - Capable of effectively teaming with others and providing excellent partnership/service to internal customers and external partners - Strong understanding of SharePoint and electronic storage as well as various document management methodologies - Proficiency in Microsoft Office, with focus on Excel and Pow
