Wizard is a new creative software company building professional tools for filmmakers, editors, and visual storytellers. We're a small founding team backed by people who've built and scaled creative software before. Wizard is being built inside a working film studio, Story. Our editors and filmmakers are down the hall. Every architectural decision gets pressure-tested against real projects within weeks, not quarters. San Francisco Bay Area. On-site. Full-time.
Role Description
In a founding team, everyone tests their own code. But video editing has an insane combinatorial surface — every codec × every effect × every timeline configuration × every export format. You're the person who makes sure that surface doesn't collapse every time someone ships a feature. You build the automated test pipelines, the regression testing infrastructure, and the reference frame validation system that catches the bug where a Premiere XML import silently breaks color on BRAW clips with HDR metadata. Nobody else is going to catch that. That's why you're here early.
What You'll Build
• Automated test pipeline — CI-integrated testing that runs against every commit, covering codec ingest, timeline operations, effects rendering, and export correctness
• Reference frame validation system
• Codec and format test matrix
• Interchange testing
• Performance regression testing
• Test fixture and media library
• Bug reproduction tooling
You Should Have
• Built test automation infrastructure for media or video software. You've validated visual output, frame timing, audio sync, and codec correctness programmatically
• Experience with the combinatorial complexity of media software QA
• Written automation frameworks, not just test cases
We'd Be Concerned If You
• Your QA experience is manual testing with written test plans
• You've only tested web applications
• You've never worked with video or media software
Compensation and Details
• $150K–$230K base salary (we're flexible for a rockstar candidate!)
• Significant founding equity
• San Francisco, in-person
