Position summary: The Public Relations Specialist is a dynamic and strategic specialist who will elevate GVR’s external presence, strengthen media relationships, and advance our communications efforts. This role will be central to shaping and amplifying the voice of GVR — sharing trusted housing data, advocacy priorities, association initiatives, and community impacts with key audiences across media, government, stakeholders, and the public. At the highest level, the Public Relations Specialist will lead communications strategies and campaigns that employ diverse communication and public relations tactics intended to strengthen public trust in the organization and its members, enhance credibility, and build a positive public reputation. Key responsibilities: Media & External Relations · Develop and maintain strong relationships with local, regional, and national media outlets. · Serve as a media contact, pitching stories, coordinating interviews, and ensuring consistent, accurate messaging about GVR initiatives and market data. · Monitor media coverage and compile regular reports on PR impact and trends. Content Creation · Write and edit press releases, media advisories, talking points, speeches, Q&A documents, and articles aligned with organizational priorities. · Work with internal teams to craft impactful messaging for campaigns, reports, and announcements. Social Media · Develop, schedule, and publish engaging content (text, images, video) across external-facing social platforms, creating editorial calendars and ensuring brand voice consistency. · Monitor, respond to, and moderate comments, messages, and posts to foster a positive online community and manage GVR’s reputation. · Act as the organization’s subject-matter lead on public facing social platforms, building and managing strategies that support reputation objectives and public engagement. Strategic Communication · Support development of communication strategies that enhance GVR’s profile on key issues such as housing affordability, market transparency, and industry innovation. · Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Advocacy, Research, Events) to ensure PR activities align with organizational goals. Brand Stewardship · Uphold and reinforce GVR’s brand, mission, and values in all communications and public engagements. Community Involvement · Administer the Community Relief Fund on behalf of the region’s REALTORS, ensuring sound governance, effective administration and clear communication and compelling storytelling around community impact related to this charitable work. Qualifications, skills, and experience: · Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, or related field. · 2+ years of professional experience in public relations, communications, or media relations (ideally in non-profit, association, housing, or real estate sectors). · Proven ability to craft compelling content and messaging for diverse audiences. · Strong media network and understanding of Canadian media landscape. · Exceptional interpersonal and presentation skills. · Demonstrated ability to exercise good judgement, tact and diplomacy. · Strategic thinker with excellent organizational and project-management capabilities. Preferred Qualifications: · Knowledge of the real estate industry, housing market trends, or public policy communications is an asset.
