The Opportunity
As a Technical Product Developer, you will lead the technical execution of apparel products from concept through to production. You will ensure garments meet MEC’s standards for fit, performance, durability, and quality, while partnering closely with Design, Merchandising and our vendor partners.
Location: This is hybrid position at our Support Office in Vancouver.
This role requires deep expertise in garment construction, patternmaking as well as strong project management skills to track development timelines and drive process improvements. Digital product creation (CLO 3D) is a desired skill set.
Fit & Technical Development
• Lead fit development across multiple apparel categories, conducting fit sessions and providing detailed, actionable feedback to vendors and their pattern teams.
• Evaluate pattern/fit, grading and construction methods to ensure fit consistency, comfort and performance across size ranges.
• Develop and maintain fit standards and measurement specifications aligned with MEC’s brand positioning and customer needs.
Construction & Quality
• Working with the design team, define garment construction methods, seam types, stitch specifications and material applications to meet performance and MEC’s durability standards.
• Review prototypes and production samples for workmanship and overall quality to ensure MEC quality standards are maintained.
• Working with the design team to ensure prototypes are fit for purpose through targeted field test programs.
• Partner with QA and Sourcing to troubleshoot technical issues and drive root-cause solutions at the factory level.
Pattern & 3D Development
• Collaborate with Design and our factory partners to translate creative intent into technically sound patterns and construction solutions.
• Collaborate with our vendor partners with factory led pattern making.
• Where needed, build and maintain digital garment libraries, blocks and fit avatars to support efficient development workflows.
• Utilize CLO 3D to visualize designs, validate fit, and support pattern development and refinement.
Development Tracking & Process Leadership
• Own development timelines, milestone tracking and technical documentation from initial concept through production readiness.
• Maintain technical packs, measurement specs, BOMs and testing requirements in PLM systems.
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives to streamline development processes, enhance cross-functional communication, and reduce time-to-market.
Collaboration & Communication
• Partner with Design, Merchandising, Sourcing and Manufacturing to align product intent, cost targets, and production feasibility.
• Communicate technical requirements clearly to global vendor partners and internal teams.
• Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior developers and cross-functional partners as needed.
What You Bring
• 3+ years of technical apparel development experience in outdoor, performance, or premium apparel.
• Strong knowledge of patternmaking, grading, garment construction and fit standards.
• Experience with PLM systems, ideally Centric.
• Excellent project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple styles and timelines.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to translate technical concepts for diverse audiences.
• A passion for outdoor activities and product performance is an asset.
• Proficiency in CLO 3D and experience integrating 3D into product development workflows.
• Strong project management and problem-solving skills
The Compensation & Perks
This is an permanent role with an anticipated annual base salary range of $75,500 - $94,900 base . The exact salary will be dependent on the successful candidate’s relevant skills, experience, location, qualifications and internal equity. This role is eligible for our annual variable incentive plan.
