Role Overview We're seeking an exceptional Principal Architect to lead the technical architecture and implementation of our payment platform powering the Multibank ecosystem. This role will be instrumental in executing our vision of creating a next-generation payment infrastructure that seamlessly integrates traditional financial rails with blockchain technology, supporting both fiat and digital asset transactions at scale. As Principal Architect, you'll shape the technical foundation of our payment platform, driving architectural decisions that will impact millions of users and billions of dollars in transaction volume. You'll work at the intersection of fintech innovation and regulatory compliance, designing systems that are secure, scalable, and capable of supporting MultiBank Group's ambitious global expansion. Key Responsibilities • Design and implement a highly scalable, fault-tolerant payment platform architecture capable of processing thousands of transactions per second with sub-second latency across multiple currencies and payment methods. • Architect secure integration frameworks for connecting with payment service providers, banks, card networks, and blockchain protocols while maintaining PCI-DSS, PSD2, and other regulatory compliance standards. • Lead the technical design of payment routing, fraud detection, anti-money laundering (AML) systems, and risk management components that protect both the platform and our clients. • Define data architecture and storage strategies for payment transactions, ensuring data integrity, auditability, and compliance with global data protection regulations including GDPR and regional requirements. • Collaborate with security and compliance teams to embed security-by-design principles, implementing encryption, tokenization, and secure key management across the payment infrastructure. • Establish comprehensive monitoring, observability, and disaster recovery frameworks to ensure 99.99% uptime and rapid incident response capabilities. • Evaluate and recommend technology stack selections, including databases, message queues, API gateways, cloud services, and blockchain platforms that best serve the platform's needs. • Create technical roadmaps and architecture documentation that clearly communicate complex systems to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. • Drive API-first design principles to enable third-party integrations, partner ecosystems, and future product innovations. • Lead proof-of-concept initiatives for emerging payment technologies and provide strategic recommendations on build vs. buy decisions for payment infrastructure components. Qualification & Skills • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical field. • 12+ years of software engineering experience with at least 5 years in senior architecture roles, including 3+ years specifically in payment systems, fintech, or financial services. • Proven track record of architecting and delivering large-scale payment platforms processing millions of transactions with multi-currency support. • Experience architecting payment solutions for cryptocurrency exchanges, digital wallets, or platforms bridging TradFi and digital assets. • Deep expertise in payment industry standards and protocols including ISO 20022, SWIFT, ACH, SEPA, card networks (Visa, Mastercard), and payment gateways. • Strong understanding of regulatory compliance requirements for payment systems including PCI-DSS, PSD2, KYC/AML, and cross-border payment regulations. • Extensive experience with distributed systems architecture, microservices, event-driven architecture, and API design patterns. • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes). • Expert knowledge of database systems (both SQL and NoSQL) and data modeling for financial transaction systems with strong consistency requirements. • Demonstrated ability to lead architecture reviews, technical decision-making processes, and cross-functional collaboration with engineering teams. • Programming Languages: Proficiency in Java, Python, Go, or similar enterprise languages; experience with smart contract languages (Solidity, Rust) is a plus. • Payment Technologies: Direct experience with payment processing platforms, settlement systems, and integration with major payment service providers. • System Design: Expertise in designing high-availability, low-latency systems with strong data consistency and transaction integrity. • Security: Deep knowledge of cryptography, secure authentication protocols, tokenization, and encryption standards for financial data. • DevOps & Infrastructure: Experience with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code (Terraform, CloudFormation), and modern deployment practices. • Message Queues & Streaming: Hands-on experience with Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar technologies for asynchronous payment processing. • Monitoring & Observability: Proficiency with monitoring tools like Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack, or DataDog for system health and performance tracking.
