Job DescriptionJob Description Senior Engineering Specialist – High Voltage & Interconnection Location: Houston, TX We are seeking an experienced Senior Engineering Specialist – High Voltage & Interconnection to lead and deliver technical expertise for utility-scale power projects, including solar, wind, and battery energy storage systems (BESS). In this senior role, you will manage critical project sub-components such as transmission lines, substations, and interconnection infrastructure, overseeing all aspects of high-voltage (HV) electrical systems to ensure seamless, reliable, and compliant integration of facilities into utility power grids. Your leadership will directly support the development of innovative, resilient, and future-ready renewable energy infrastructure. Apply today—we'd love to hear from you. #TopEmployer What You Will Do • Lead execution of design, construction, and commissioning activities, and support development of Generator Interconnection Agreements (GIAs) with utilities, Independent System Operators (ISOs), and Regional Transmission Organizations (RTOs). • Review, optimize, and approve HV/MV substations, collection systems, transmission lines, and major equipment specifications including transformers, circuit breakers, switchgear, and BESS. • Conduct or oversee power system studies, including: • * Power flow • Short-circuit • Arc-flash • Protection coordination • Grounding studies • Ensure all designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and internal specifications. • Serve as the technical interface between internal teams (Power Business Development, Technical Services, Operations, Supply Chain, Legal, Safety, Environmental, Land, and Project Support groups) and external partners including consultants, EPC contractors, utilities, and equipment suppliers. • Support HV equipment procurement by developing technical bid packages, optimizing designs, reviewing vendor proposals, and approving technical submittals. • Provide expert technical leadership during construction and commissioning, including site-based oversight, quality control, acceptance testing, and system integration. • Contribute to project reporting, milestone tracking, and executive updates, proactively identifying risks, issues, and mitigation strategies. Who You Are • Bachelor's degree in Engineering; Professional Engineer (PE – US) or P.Eng. (Canada) required, with a strong preference for Electrical Engineering. • 8+ years of experience (10–15+ years ) with progressively increasing technical responsibility and informal or functional leadership. • Demonstrated experience in utility-scale power system design, integration, and interconnection across multiple North American ISOs/RTOs. • Broad background spanning both field/site and office-based engineering environments. • Strong collaborative mindset with the ability to balance technical excellence, cost, schedule, and full-lifecycle asset considerations. • Excellent communication skills with the ability to lead technical discussions and stakeholder meetings. • Valid driver's license required (motor vehicle record check conducted prior to hire). Working Conditions • Primarily office-based with periodic field work. • Approximately 10% travel, increasing to up to 25% during peak project phases. • Hybrid work model available: work from home on Wednesdays and Fridays (FlexWork Program).
