Position Overview:
We are seeking a Backend/Services Engineer with strong experience in C and Golang (Go) to design and build high-performance backend systems that support a privacy-first platform. This role involves close collaboration with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable, secure, and reliable services.
Responsibilities
• Design, implement, and maintain backend systems focused on privacy, security, and usability
• Collaborate with product, infrastructure, and engineering teams to build efficient, scalable services
• Work alongside security experts to develop systems with strong privacy protections
• Drive technical direction of backend projects from design through deployment
• Continuously improve code quality, system performance, and reliability
Requirements
• Proficiency in C and Golang (Go)
• Degree in Computer Science or related field
• Solid understanding of computing fundamentals (algorithms, data structures, networking, distributed systems)
• Experience building reliable, efficient, and secure backend systems
• Strong debugging and problem-solving abilities
• Willingness to work full-time on-site in Chicago
Preferred
• Experience with security-critical systems or privacy-enhancing technologies
• Familiarity with Linux utilities, scripting, cryptography, or secure software development
• Exposure to web technologies, especially PHP and Laravel
