MRDI is looking for an intellectually curious and skilled Machine Learning Scientist to join our team dedicated to pioneering AI-assisted semiconductor technology development. This role is focused on designing and implementing advanced AI models to control, optimize, and automate complex physical processes, specifically in thin film deposition (like MBE, CVD, PVD). While prior domain experience in semiconductors is not required, the successful candidate must demonstrate strong foundational ML skills and a genuine interest in applying them to challenging industrial and scientific control problems.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Model Development & Deployment: Design, develop, train, and deploy robust machine learning models for control, optimization, and predictive tasks, utilizing real-time and historical sensor data from industrial equipment.
Applied AI Research: Translate high-level business and scientific goals into tangible ML problems, researching and implementing state-of-the-art algorithms (e.g., deep learning, time-series analysis, reinforcement learning) to solve novel industrial challenges.
Data Strategy & Engineering: Conduct exploratory data analysis, perform complex feature engineering, and develop efficient data pipelines to handle large volumes of high-velocity, high-dimensional sensor data.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with software engineers, control specialists, and domain experts to integrate developed AI models seamlessly into our control software platforms and client workflows.
Documentation & Knowledge Transfer: Clearly document model methodology, performance metrics, and deployment procedures. Assist in creating educational content for clients on the successful integration of AI/ML.
REQUIREMENTS
Education: Master's degree or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Data Science, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a related quantitative discipline.
Machine Learning Expertise (1+ years professional experience):
Demonstrated strength in core ML concepts, including classification, regression, and optimization techniques.
Expertise in Time Series Modeling and Anomaly Detection.
Practical experience in the full ML lifecycle: data cleaning, model training, validation, and deployment.
Technical Proficiency:
Expert proficiency in Python and common data science libraries (NumPy, pandas, scikit-learn).
Proficiency with deep learning frameworks (TensorFlow or PyTorch).
Strong software development practices (version control, testing).
Problem-Solving Mindset: A strong interest and proven ability to tackle complex, data-rich problems within the realm of physical sciences, manufacturing, or industrial automation.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience with Control Theory or developing ML models for closed-loop control systems.
Familiarity with Reinforcement Learning (RL) for sequential decision-making or optimization.
Experience with computer vision or image processing for analyzing industrial monitoring data (e.g., optical or pattern recognition systems).
Experience in a production environment deploying models via APIs or on edge devices.
Note: The level of responsibility and complexity of tasks will be commensurate with the candidate's qualifications and experience. A candidate with less experience will be considered for a junior position.
The initial employment contract spans 12 months, with renewal subject to performance and funding availability. The incumbent will normally work five days a week. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. A gratuity of 15% of the salary will be awarded upon satisfactory completion of the contract.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE
To apply, please submit the applications via CTgoodjobs by 9 March 2026. Please specify the present/latest salary and expected salary in the CV. Only shortlisted candidates will be notified of the result of the application. MRDI reserves the right not to fill the position.
Information provided by applicants will be kept confidential and used for recruitment and other employment-related purposes only. MRDI will retain the personal data of unsuccessful applications for future recruitment purposes for a period of not more than 6 months.
MRDI is an Equal Opportunities Employer and welcomes applications from all qualified candidates.
