Linux Systems Engineer

Linux Systems Engineer – Middleware / Messaging Location: Jersey City, NJ (Hybrid or Onsite) Overview A large enterprise financial services environment is seeking an experienced Linux Systems Engineer with strong production support experience and exposure to middleware, messaging platforms, or web technologies. This is an urgent need supporting critical infrastructure in a high availability, fast paced environment. The team is open to candidates with solid Linux fundamentals who have worked with any major messaging platform or enterprise web stack, rather than requiring deep specialization in a single tool. Key Responsibilities • Provide production support for Linux based systems supporting enterprise applications • Support middleware, messaging, and web platforms in a 24x7 environment, including occasional off hours support • Troubleshoot system, application, and infrastructure issues across Linux environments • Support one or more messaging technologies such as IBM MQ, Kafka, Solace, or similar platforms • Support web and application technologies such as Apache, Tomcat, or WebSphere • Partner with application, infrastructure, and operations teams to resolve complex production issues • Perform system maintenance activities including upgrades, patching, and configuration changes • Ensure system stability, performance, and compliance with operational standards • Document procedures and contribute to continuous improvement of support processes Required Qualifications • 5 to 10 years of hands on production support experience • Strong Linux systems engineering and troubleshooting skills • Experience supporting at least one messaging platform (MQ, Kafka, Solace, or similar) or enterprise web technologies (Apache, Tomcat, WebSphere) • Experience supporting mission critical systems in a production environment • Familiarity with scripting and automation (Bash, Python, or similar) • Strong problem solving skills and ability to work under pressure Nice to Have • Experience in financial services or other regulated environments • Exposure to multiple messaging or middleware platforms • Experience with monitoring tools and alerting systems • Knowledge of networking fundamentals such as DNS and load balancing NO THIRD PARTY VENDORS!
