System Administrator/DevOps Engineer to design, implement, manage, and optimize our critical in-house IT infrastructure from the ground up.
Job Description :
• Operating Systems: Strong proficiency in Linux (e.g., Ubuntu, CentOS, Red Hat) and/or Windows Server administration.
• Cloud Platforms: Hands-on experience with at least one major cloud provider (AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform), including compute, networking, storage, and IAM services.
• Database Administration: (i) Expertise in PostgreSQL, with specific experience in TimescaleDB administration. This is critical for our data infrastructure. (ii) Proven experience with database backups, replication, performance tuning, and troubleshooting. Proficiency in SQL. (iii) Containerization & Orchestration: Experience with Docker and container orchestration platforms (e.g., Kubernetes, Docker Swarm).
• Networking: Solid understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPNs, firewalls, and network security best practices.
• Scripting & Automation: Proficiency in at least one scripting language (e.g., Bash, Python, PowerShell) for automating routine tasks.
• Monitoring & Logging Tools: Experience with tools like Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana), DataDog, Splunk, or similar.
• Security: Strong understanding of cybersecurity principles, access controls, vulnerability management, and patch management.
• Technical Skills (Nice-to-Haves / Preferred): (i) Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform or Ansible. (ii) Familiarity with IoT platforms/protocols (e.g., MQTT, AWS IoT Core, Azure IoT Hub). (iii) Experience with CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, Bitbucket pipelines). (iv) Knowledge of mobile application deployment infrastructure. (v) Relevant certifications (e.g., Linux Professional Institute (LPI), certificationAWS Certified SysOps Administrator, Azure Administrator Associate)
Key Responsibilities :
• Architect and manage our infrastructure internally, including VMs, networking (VPCs, VPNs, Load Balancers), and optimising managed services for in-house efficiency.
• Be the primary administrator and optimiser for our TimescaleDB (PostgreSQL) instances, ensuring high availability, performance, robust backups, and rapid disaster recovery for our critical time-series data. This includes capacity planning and continuous tuning.
• Oversee and do the in-house deployment, monitoring, and scaling of our backend applications and mobile app APIs (e.g., using Docker, Kubernetes).
• Implement and enforce stringent security protocols across all layers: network, server, application, and database, tailored for our internal operations.
• Develop and maintain automation scripts (e.g., using Bash, Python, PowerShell, Ansible, Terraform) for infrastructure provisioning, configuration management, and deployment pipelines that are fully owned and managed by our team.
• Set up and manage comprehensive monitoring, logging, and alerting systems to proactively identify and resolve issues across our IoT devices, backend, and database within our internal ecosystem.
• Perform regular system audits, vulnerability assessments, and patch management across our in-house systems.
• Contribute directly to disaster recovery and business continuity planning and execution for our core infrastructure.
• Provide expert technical support and guidance to our in-house development teams regarding infrastructure best practices and system capabilities.
• Manage device provisioning and over-the-air updates for our IoT sensor network.
