Position: System Engineer (Chicago)
Akkodis is seeking a Systems Engineer for a 6-month Contract job with a client in Chicago, IL. The Systems Engineer is a hands-on technical role responsible for the deployment, operation, and support of enterprise cloud and hybrid infrastructure. Reporting to the Manager of Cloud Operations, this position ensures that services across cloud platforms and on-prem environments are highly available, secure, and efficient.
The Systems Engineer executes the day-to-day operational tasks (patching, monitoring, troubleshooting, deployments) while also contributing to automation, roadmap projects, BAU objectives, and continuous improvement initiatives. They collaborate closely with the Cloud Operations Manager and the Cloud Architecture team, ensuring designs are implemented effectively and kept sustainable in production.
Pay Range: $60/hr-$65/hr on W2. The rate may be negotiable based on experience, education, geographic location, and other factors.
Qualifications
• Cloud Operations Expertise: 3+ years in IT infrastructure, with at least 3+ years managing cloud operations in cloud platforms.
• Infrastructure Expertise: Strong background in Azure, AWS, I&M, and Microsoft services.
• Operational Management: Strong experience with ITIL processes (incident, problem, change, configuration management).
• Automation: Hands-on experience with automation repetitive tasks.
• Monitoring & Performance: Proficiency with monitoring platforms and proactive performance management.
• Security & Compliance: Familiarity with IAM, RBAC, Zero Trust, encryption, and vulnerability remediation in cloud environments.
• Hybrid Infrastructure: Understanding of on-premises systems (VMware, Windows/Linux, AD, SAN/NAS) and integration with cloud.
• Networking Knowledge: Understanding of cloud networking and hybrid connectivity
• Security: Proven experience embedding security and compliance into cloud operations; knowledge of IAM, encryption, SIEM/SOAR, Zero Trust, and regulatory standards.
• Emerging Tech & Innovation: Exposure to emerging cloud technologies and ability to evaluate and incorporate new services to drive innovation.
• Communication: Excellent communication skills, with an ability to translate complex support experiences into business-friendly experiences.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborative mindset with experience working across multiple IT and business teams.
• Adaptability: Ability to thrive in a fast-changing environment. Keeps up with the latest cloud innovations and best practices, and quickly adapts strategies based on new information or project needs.
• Professionalism: High degree of self-motivation and accountability.
• Problem Solving: Analytical and structured approach to troubleshooting and resolving issues.
• Process Driven: Strong background in governance, ITIL, and operational process design.
• Ownership: Takes accountability for assigned services, ensuring reliability and compliance.
