Job Title: Cloud FinOps Analyst

Contract Duration: 6 months (potential for extension or full-time conversion)
Compensation: $24.82 - $76.60/hour (W2)
Position Overview
Client’s Research and Early Development IT organization is seeking a Cloud FinOps Analyst to help manage and optimize public cloud costs for scientific applications and infrastructure. In this role, you will work cross-functionally with scientists, software engineers, IT teams, and finance stakeholders to analyze usage patterns, develop forecasting models, and identify cost-saving opportunities.
You will join a collaborative team of cloud engineers supporting a cutting-edge research environment that leverages technologies such as high-performance computing, petabyte-scale storage, and AI/ML tools to drive Genentech’s drug discovery and development efforts.
Key Responsibilities
• Estimate annual costs for new and ongoing AWS-based scientific projects.
• Monitor, track, and forecast cloud expenses across multiple accounts and teams.
• Identify and recommend cost optimization strategies and savings opportunities.
• Partner with IT and Finance to refine budgeting models, forecasts, and reporting workflows.
• Continuously analyze and present data on cloud spend, utilization, inefficiencies, and waste.
• Educate colleagues and project teams on cost awareness, tagging strategies, and FinOps best practices.
• Aggregate and visualize multi-source data into actionable insights and dashboards.
Qualifications
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in a technology-related field.
• Experience: 3+ years in a cloud infrastructure or cloud financial operations role.
• Cloud Knowledge: In-depth understanding of AWS services, pricing, and cost modeling.
• Analytical Skills: Strong data analysis capabilities including data interpretation, storytelling, and visualization.
• Tools & Technologies: Experience with cloud monitoring, usage tracking, and FinOps tools.
• Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences.
• Collaboration: Strong interpersonal skills with proven ability to work across teams in IT, engineering, and finance.
