📍 Location: Los Angeles, California, USA At Embention, we have spent more than 18 years working toward a clear mission: enabling drones to populate our skies. We provide over 700 customers across 70 countries with safety-critical avionics and high-performance components, for advanced air mobility (AAM) including UAVs, drones, and eVTOL aircraft, all developed in compliance with the highest aeronautical certification standards (DO178C, DO254, STANAG, etc.). Our technology supports a wide range of programs, from defense and security applications to urban air mobility, cargo transport, and even space-related recovery projects. The core of Embention is our R&D organization, with more than 100 engineers across multiple disciplines. Together with the rest of the team, we are a global organization of 175+ professionals aligned around one mission. Today, Embention has a strong presence in Spain, a growing local team in Los Angeles (USA), and a high-tech production facility in Abu Dhabi (UAE). As part of our strategic growth, we are now strengthening our footprint in the United States. If you are an Aerospace Engineer, Controls Engineer, or an engineer passionate about aerospace, and feel aligned with our mission, we would love to meet you. 🌟 What would your mission be? The Flight Controls & Avionics Systems Integration Engineer is responsible for the technical integration, validation, tuning, and operational readiness of Embention’s mission-critical flight control and avionics systems across customer platforms operating in demanding environments. This role sits at the intersection of systems engineering, flight controls, avionics integration, and operational deployment, and serves as a key technical interface between Embention and its customers. The engineer works hands-on with both customer and internal engineering teams to integrate flight control systems into aircraft, ensure correct system behavior across all operating modes, and support ground and flight test activities. You will work with complete flight systems end-to-end, from simulation and SIL/HIL testing through ground testing and flight test, ensuring system performance, reliability, and safety throughout the entire integration lifecycle. 💡 What will your responsibilities be? • Integrate and configure flight control systems, avionics systems, and peripherals to form complete operational aircraft platforms • Lead system-level integration of Vertonte autopilots and avionics across UAV, RPAS, and advanced aerospace platforms • Support flight control law configuration and tuning, including gain tuning and parameter optimization • Perform SIL, HIL, and bench-level simulations to support verification and validation activities • Define and execute system integration procedures, flight planning workflows, and validation processes • Support ground testing, functional testing, and flight test campaigns, including on-site test support • Diagnose and resolve complex system-level, aerodynamic, electronic, and integration issues • Analyze flight data and telemetry to validate system performance and identify anomalies • Interface with multidisciplinary engineering teams in a safety-critical, regulated aerospace environment • Serve as a technical integration point for U.S. based customers, providing hands-on engineering support during integration and test phases 🕵️♀️ What do we need? • Must be a U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or other status as defined by ITAR/EAR regulations) • Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Controls Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related technical field • Strong foundation in flight control systems, system dynamics, and avionics architectures • Hands-on experience with systems integration, validation, and testing of aircraft or autonomous systems • Experience using MATLAB / Simulink for modeling, simulation, or control development • Knowledge of control algorithms (e.g., PID control, system dynamics, stability concepts) • Ability to work directly with hardware, software, and control systems in an integrated environment • Willingness and ability to travel up to 50% to customer, integration, and test locations • Strong problem-solving mindset and ability to work effectively in complex technical environments 📚 What do we value? • Experience with UAVs, RPAS, UGVs, or advanced aerospace systems • Familiarity with HIL environments and flight simulation tools (e.g., X-Plane or similar) • Knowledge of avionics and communication protocols (e.g., CAN bus, serial interfaces) • Experience supporting flight test, field testing, or operational deployments • Customer-facing technical experience in a systems integration or engineering role • Exposure to aerospace certification or safety-critical development environments 💫 Why this role matters? This role is critical to ensuring that Embention’s flight control and avionics systems are correctly integrated, validated, and trusted across customer platforms. The Systems Integration Engineer plays a direct role in aircraft safety, performance, and mission success by bridging engineering development with real-world operational deployment. Embention is an equal opportunity employer. Recruitment decisions are made based on experience, qualifications, and alignment with role requirements.
