analyze RFQs, tender specifications, and client documents to determine control, protection, and automation requirements.
pre-bid design
• create preliminary overall SLDs, protection SLD, and SCADA/communication architecture diagrams.
• estimate control & protection scope including: relay panel counts, relay types or models & quantities, power, control and FO cable quantity estimation as per voltage level of substation, terminal and I/O card requirements.
• interface with proposal, costing, and procurement teams to support technical input for BOQ and bid pricing.
• provide relay and protection scheme selection recommendations based on voltage level, technical specification, grid codes, and cost-efficiency.
suggest design optimizations to reduce cost while maintaining technical compliance. work with OEMs and vendors for budgetary quotations, compliance, and integration feasibility.
execution of contract
• develop secondary engineering design drawings including: control & protection SLD & schematics, wiring diagrams, inter trip and interlocking logic diagrams, all type of relay settings, CT & PT sizing calculations and time-current characteristics, cable & termination scheduling details, panel general arrangement, board formation & BOM, SCADA & telecommunication architecture and interfaces.
• prepare detail engineering for protection systems (line, transformer, busbar, bus sectionalize breaker failure, etc.), metering & control circuits, bay control units (BCUs), relays, RTUs, and IEDs.
• select and specify protection relays and control equipment based on project and client needs.
• ensure designs comply with relevant standards (IEC, IEEE, IS) and utility codes.
• work with primary design, civil, mechanical, Fire protection, Firefighting, CCTV surveillance, communication and project engineering teams for coordinated substation layout and cable routing.
• prepare BOQ and support procurement with technical data sheets.
• participate in design reviews, client meetings, FAT/SAT of panels, and support during commissioning if required.
