The Partner Engineering Team is seeking open-source enthusiasts to work across the full Linux stack to optimize new silicon technologies, including hardware accelerators, AI stacks, confidential computing, networking, virtualization, and containerization stacks. This role includes collaborating with worldwide silicon companies to enhance Ubuntu for various architectures such as x86, ARM, RISC-V, PowerPC, and s390x.
Responsibilities:
• Collaborate proactively within a distributed team.
• Foster a software ecosystem that provides a seamless user experience for all Ubuntu users.
• Evaluate contributions from other engineers to uphold high-quality software standards.
• Shape the future of Ubuntu through innovative ideas and advisory roles.
• Work with other engineering teams, upstream projects, and commercial customers.
• Debug and resolve issues in open source code and team-maintained code.
• Assist customers in integrating their apps and optimizing applications with Ubuntu Core, Desktop, and Server.
• Maintain Ubuntu and silicon features across multiple platforms, including servers, HPC, AI systems, and IoT devices.
Work Conditions:
• This is a remote role with a work-from-home arrangement.
• Periodic global travel (2 to 4 weeks per year) for internal team events.
Requirements:
• Exceptional academic track record with an undergraduate degree in a technical subject or a compelling alternative path.
• Passion for technology and collaboration with diverse teams.
• Strong fundamentals in C, C++, and Python.
• Experience or interest in Linux distribution packaging and open source maintenance.
• Fundamental understanding of package management and dependency resolution.
Additional Skills That You Might Bring:
• Experience with graphics, audio, or multimedia stacks.
• Knowledge of virtualization and containers (Docker, OCI, Kubernetes).
• Familiarity with hardware enablement for various platforms and devices.
• Understanding of networking protocols and technologies (TCP/IP, DHCP, HTTP/REST).
• Knowledge of security best practices and IoT/embedded systems.
