Overview
At Squadric, we partner with organizations to build modern, scalable, and intelligent technology solutions. We are seeking a Datadog Specialist for a contract position. This role will serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for everything Datadog, leading how we monitor, alert, and observe our complex infrastructure and applications. You'll partner closely with engineers, SREs, and leadership to design observability strategies, advance best practices, and drive measurable performance insights.
This is a hybrid role, requiring two days per week of in-office collaboration, based in either Surrey, BC or Calgary, AB, with the remaining work performed remotely.
Role Overview
While rooted in DevOps, this position has a stronger focus on monitoring, alerting, dashboards, and observability strategy using Datadog beyond general Ops responsibilities. Your experience will guide how our client adopts and scales monitoring practices for reliability, performance, and customer-centric outcomes.
What You'll Do
• Act as the go-to internal expert for Datadog across teams.
• Design, implement, configure and optimize Datadog environments including metric collection, dashboards, monitors/alerts and logging.
• Establish tagging practices, alert thresholds, SLIs/SLOs, and visualization standards in Datadog.
• Lead observability strategy across infrastructure, applications, microservices, containers, and cloud platforms.
• Propose improvements and operational best practices to increase reliability and reduce alert fatigue.
• Build, maintain, and fine-tune Datadog monitors and alerts to ensure proactive responses to incidents.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to translate business and operational priorities into observability requirements.
• Troubleshoot issues using logs, metrics, traces, events and custom dashboards.
• Support CI/CD pipelines, automation, and infrastructure as code (IaC) where applicable.
• Mentor and educate DevOps/SRE/Engineering teams on observability best practices.
• Participate in incident response and post-mortem analyses to continually improve monitoring outcomes.
What You Bring
• Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field.
• 3+ years in DevOps, SRE, Site Reliability, Monitoring, Observability, or related roles with measurable impact.
• Mandatory hands-on experience with Datadog in designing monitors, alerting, dashboards, and observability implementation across distributed systems.
• Proven track record applying Datadog best practices in production environments.
• Datadog Certifications. At least Datadog Fundamentals is required.
• Experience with infrastructure tooling: cloud platform (Azure), IaC (Terraform), CI/CD automation, containerization (Kubernetes).
