A large, regulated enterprise is engaging a senior Data Engineering Delivery Lead to drive high-impact cloud data platform modernisation initiatives.
This is an engineering-led delivery role, focused on owning complex AWS and Databricks programmes end-to-end - from requirements and architecture translation through to execution, governance, and executive reporting.
The engagement is contract-first, with strong potential for extension and future scope as the broader data transformation scales.
What You’ll Be Doing
• Lead enterprise-scale data engineering and platform modernisation programmes
• Own delivery of AWS-based data platforms, including migrations and greenfield builds
• Translate architecture and strategy into executable delivery plans
• Run stakeholder workshops and shape business requirements (BRDs)
• Manage onshore and offshore engineering squads
• Own RAID, governance, and programme stability
• Coordinate multiple vendors and partners — outcomes over slideware
• Present progress, risks, and investment decisions to senior technology and business leadership
• Estimate costs, resourcing, and timelines for large-scale initiatives
This Role Is (Non-Negotiable)
Data Engineering & Platform Delivery
You must have led:
• AWS + Databricks engineering programmes
• Data lake / data warehouse builds
• ETL and ingestion pipelines
• Platform migrations or modernisation initiatives
• Multi-squad engineering delivery in enterprise environments
This Role Is NOT
• Data science or ML research leadership
• GenAI-only product roles
• BI-only or reporting-focused management
• Startup-only CTO profiles without enterprise delivery depth
Required Experience
• Proven delivery leadership in regulated, enterprise environments
• Experience working within CIO / enterprise technology organisations
• Strong understanding of data governance and operating models
• Comfortable managing multi-vendor delivery ecosystems
Industry experience is flexible - insurance is a plus, not a requirement. Other relevant backgrounds include financial services, utilities, healthcare, pharma, or telecoms.
