Role Overview
We are seeking a Data Scientist to support financial services clients in applying advanced data analytics, statistical analysis, and AI-enabled solutions to strengthen risk management, operational governance, and regulatory compliance frameworks.
The Data Scientist works closely withbusiness, risk, and technical stakeholders to optimise decision-making processes and improve operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
• Analyse complex business and operational datasets using Python and SQL to identify patterns, trends, risks, and improvement opportunities across financial and risk-related use cases.
• Apply statistical analysis and exploratory or rule-based analytical methods to support business decision-making, risk assessment, and operational optimisation.
• Design, develop, and maintain Python-based data processing and automation scripts to improve efficiency, accuracy, and scalability of analytical workflows.
• Perform end-to-end data assessments, including data validation, quality review, and logical consistency checks to ensure analytical outputs are robust and reliable.
• Translate business and operational requirements into analytical specifications, data logic, and technical solutions through close collaboration with stakeholders.
• Prepare analytical reports, visualisations, and technical documentation that clearly communicate insights, assumptions, and recommendations to management and business users.
• Support risk analytics initiatives, including assessment of operational, claims, or financial risk indicators through data-driven analysis.
• Evaluate AI and advanced analytics use cases, assessing data availability, technical feasibility, and alignment with existing business processes and governance requirements.
• Support system development and implementation activities related to data analytics platforms, operational governance tools, or AI-enabled solutions.
• Stay current with emerging practices in data science, AI, cloud analytics, and automation, advising stakeholders on their practical application in financial services environments.
Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science from a recognised university.
• 1–3 years of experience in data science, data analytics, or analytics-focused consulting roles.
• Proven experience applying data analysis, statistical methods, and programming to solve complex business or operational problems.
• Experience in financial services, insurance, or risk-related analytics is preferred.
• Exposure to regulatory, compliance, or operational governance analytics is an advantage.
• Strong proficiency in Python for data analysis, automation, and analytical modelling.
• Working knowledge of SQL for querying and analysing structured datasets.
• Experience producing analytical reports and visualisationsto communicate insights to business stakeholders.
• Solid understanding of statistical analysis, data modelling,and exploratory analytics techniques.
• Familiarity with cloud-based analytics environments (e.g. AWS, Azure) is an advantage.
• Strong ability to translate raw data into meaningful, business-relevant insights.
• Excellent analytical thinking, problem-solving, and structured reasoning skills.
• Ability to clearly document analytical logic, assumptions, and findings.
• High attention to detail and strong professional judgement.
• Good communication skill in both English and Japanese (Business-level proficiency as mandatory) to liaise with Japanese stakeholders and clients.
• Proven ability to explain analytical concepts and results to non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience working directly with business users, technical teams, and management in client-facing environments.
