Position Overview
Terran Industries is seeking a senior-level D365 Architect & IT Manager to serve as the company’s primary technology leader. This is not a traditional IT support or oversight-only role — it is a hands-on technical position that requires deep expertise in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central (or Finance & Operations), including the ability to actively develop, customize, and configure the platform, combined with the willingness to own the full scope of the company’s IT operations.
The ideal candidate has completed full-lifecycle D365 implementations in manufacturing and/or distribution environments and brings a proven track record of designing integration architectures, establishing data governance frameworks, and driving continuous improvement of enterprise systems. Critically, this person must have the confidence and credibility to push back across the organization when needed — ensuring that processes, configurations, and customizations are done right, not just done fast. This person will also be responsible for the day-to-day IT needs of the organization, from infrastructure and security to end-user support, making versatility and a roll-up-your-sleeves mentality essential.
Core ResponsibilitiesD365 / ERP Architecture & Strategy
• Own and drive the ERP roadmap for Terran, ensuring the D365 platform evolves to meet current and future business requirements across manufacturing, distribution, and operational workflows.
• Design and maintain the integration architecture connecting D365 with critical business systems, including EDI, 3PL/logistics platforms, CRM, warranty management, and other third-party applications.
• Lead and actively perform hands-on D365 development, customization, and configuration — this is a coding role, not just an oversight role. You will be writing and reviewing AL/X++ code, building integrations, and doing the technical work directly, alongside any junior developers or external support resources.
• Drive full D365 implementation and transformation initiatives — including greenfield deployments, migrations, upgrades, new module rollouts, and process reengineering — from scoping and requirements through go-live and post-implementation stabilization.
• Establish and enforce data governance policies and standards to ensure data integrity, consistency, and security across all enterprise systems.
• Monitor and optimize D365 system performance, identifying bottlenecks and implementing solutions to maintain reliability and speed.
• Define and enforce development standards, coding best practices, and change management procedures for all D365 customizations and extensions.
• Mentor and manage junior developers and technical staff, building internal D365 capabilities and institutional knowledge. Set clear expectations for quality and hold the team accountable to development standards.
• Serve as the technical authority on ERP and systems decisions across the organization — able and willing to push back on stakeholders at all levels to ensure solutions are architected correctly and aligned with long-term strategy.
• Manage relationships with external D365 vendors, implementation partners, and Microsoft, ensuring SLAs are met and engagements deliver value.
General IT Management
• Serve as the primary IT resource for the organization, managing infrastructure including networks (LAN/WAN), VPNs, firewalls, servers, and end-user hardware and software.
• Oversee cybersecurity measures, including firewall configuration, endpoint protection, access controls, and incident response procedures.
• Provide hands-on desktop support and help desk services, resolving hardware and software issues for end-users efficiently and professionally.
• Manage system administration tasks including patching, updates, backups, disaster recovery planning, and hardware lifecycle management.
• Evaluate, recommend, and implement new technologies and tools to improve organizational efficiency and security.
• Maintain comprehensive documentation of system configurations, network topology, procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
• Take on additional IT-related projects and responsibilities as needed — this role requires a flexible, ownership-driven mindset.
Required Qualifications
• Minimum 7–10 years of hands-on development and configuration experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and/or Finance & Operations (or legacy Dynamics AX / NAV), with significant time spent actively writing AL/X++ code, building customizations, and working at an architect or senior technical lead level. This is a development role — not a project management or oversight-only position.
• Demonstrated experience leading full-lifecycle ERP implementations and transformations — from scoping and design through go-live and stabilization — in manufacturing, distribution, or supply chain environments. This is not negotiable; we need someone who has done this before.
• Deep expertise in D365 integration architecture, including experience with EDI, APIs/web services, middleware platforms, and connections to 3PL, CRM, and other enterprise systems.
• Proven ability to establish and manage ERP roadmaps, data governance frameworks, and development standards at an enterprise level.
• Strong general IT infrastructure knowledge, including networking (LAN/WAN/VPN), server administration, cybersecurity fundamentals, and end-user support.
• Experience managing vendor and partner relationships, including Microsoft CSP/partner engagements and third-party implementation firms.
• Excellent communication skills — able to translate complex technical concepts for business stakeholders and executive leadership. Must be comfortable challenging assumptions and advocating for the right technical approach, even when it’s not the easiest path.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with warehouse management, supply chain planning, or production modules within D365.
• Familiarity with Power Platform (Power BI, Power Automate, Power Apps) as extensions of the D365 ecosystem.
• Experience with Azure cloud services, DevOps practices, and lifecycle services (LCS).
• Relevant Microsoft certifications (e.g., MB-700, MB-300, MB-500, AZ-900, or similar).
• Experience mentoring developers and building internal technical teams.
• Background managing IT operations as a one-person or small-team IT department — comfort wearing multiple hats is critical.
