Reimagine What's Possible Air Products and Chemicals, Inc., a Fortune 500 manufacturer of industrial gases, has an immediate opening for a Commissioning and Startup Electrical / Instrument & Controls Engineer. This position reports to the Global HYCO Director of Commissioning and Startup and provides leadership and technical expertise for commissioning and startup activities across industrial capital projects ranging from several million to over $1B. Key Responsibilities • Lead and oversee electrical and instrumentation commissioning teams within the Global HYCO Product Delivery Organization. • Develop and implement work processes, industry standards, training, and overall competency development of electrical and instrumentation commissioning. • Collaborate closely with commissioning teams, Product Delivery Organization Electrical Engineering, Operations Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation and Controls Engineering, and construction teams to deliver projects efficiently and safely. • Provide direct electrical engineering support for projects actively in electrical commissioning and startup, assisting field Q-EC electrical technicians with relay programming, motor starting, electrical equipment issues, evaluation of electrical test results, and interpretation of installation drawings and standards. • Provide instrument and controls guidance on installations, commissioning, and troubleshooting instrumented systems following Air Products standards and work processes. • Implement electrical and instrumentation construction and commissioning best work processes and work with 3rd party vendors to support resource demands. • Develop electrical construction packages and E&I contracting strategies. • Assist with training, mentoring, and competency program management for Air Products' qualified electrical commissioning (Q-EC) and instrument technicians. • Coordinate FATs, equipment acceptance testing, pre-commissioning, commissioning, energization, and functional testing procedures with vendors of new electrical equipment (e.g., LCI drives, high‑voltage VFDs, H2 electrolyzers, partial discharge equipment). • Experience with high‑voltage energy isolations (HVEIC) as author, reviewer, and executor of isolation and switching, and removal of isolations. • Coordinate FATs for process interface buildings (PIBs) and analyzer buildings. Minimum Qualifications • Minimum of 15 years total electrical field, design, and engineering experience. • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field. • Proven experience with electrical construction management, electrical acceptance testing, electrical commissioning & functional testing, and equipment energization. • Familiarity with instrument construction management, instrument acceptance testing (loop checking), instrument & controls commissioning, functional testing, and validation. • Demonstrated strong commitment to safety, environmental, quality, and employee involvement. • Strong leadership, team building, and diversity commitment. • Approximately 35‑60% travel to active sites, projects, and equipment inspections/FATs.
