Overview
We are seeking a hands on Cloud Infrastructure Engineer to design, implement, support, and continuously improve a Microsoft cloud environment. This role blends platform engineering and operational ownership across Azure, cloud networking and security, Kubernetes, automation, and core Microsoft services.
This is a highly visible opportunity for someone who enjoys building reliable systems, hardening environments, and improving resiliency and disaster recovery readiness. You will partner closely with internal teams across security, DevOps, and infrastructure and will be expected to take ownership of outcomes, not just tasks.
Work arrangement
• Location: Chicago, IL preferred (hybrid)
• Hybrid expectation: 3 days on site per week preferred
• Remote: open for exceptional candidates
• Standard hours: 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM
• On call: participation in an on call rotation and periodic off hours maintenance
Key responsibilities
Azure cloud infrastructure and platform engineering
• Administer, monitor, and support Azure infrastructure to ensure performance, reliability, and security
• Design and implement resilient cloud solutions leveraging services such as Virtual Machines, AKS, Managed SQL Instances, Logic Apps, and related Azure services
• Partner with internal stakeholders to mature cloud native architecture and support proofs of concept for new technologies
Networking and security execution
• Implement and support cloud networking and security services including Azure Firewall, Network Security Groups, private networking, DNS, Application Gateway, and Azure Front Door
• Respond to cloud security findings and alerts by implementing remediations and configuration improvements
• Support secure application patterns including application registrations, secrets management, and general best practices in cloud security
Microsoft 365, identity, and endpoint management
• Administer and support Microsoft 365 with emphasis on Exchange, Teams, SharePoint, and OneDrive
• Manage user and application identities in Entra ID including onboarding, offboarding, auditing, and access controls aligned with IAM best practices
• Configure endpoint devices using Intune and monitor compliance and policy enforcement
Resiliency, DR, and operational excellence
• Contribute to business continuity and disaster recovery planning and lead or support DR testing
• Improve observability, incident response processes, and operational documentation
• Monitor infrastructure services to proactively identify issues and implement preventative improvements
• Create and maintain technical documentation, runbooks, and procedures
Collaboration and leadership expectations
• Lead infrastructure projects by coordinating work across teams and driving delivery through planning and execution
• Mentor peers and contribute to stronger team processes and standards
• Grow into increased technical leadership responsibilities over time
Required qualifications
• 5 plus years of experience in infrastructure, cloud, or systems engineering roles
• 2 plus years of hands on Azure experience in production environments
• Experience with Kubernetes and containerization, including Docker and Kubernetes, AKS preferred
• Working knowledge of cloud networking concepts including private networking, routing, DNS, and firewall or security rule management
• Experience supporting Windows Server virtual machines and core infrastructure services
• Experience with Microsoft 365 administration, including familiarity with Exchange, Teams, SharePoint, and OneDrive
• Experience with Entra ID and identity access concepts for users and applications
• Experience with Intune or modern endpoint management and compliance policies
• Scripting and automation experience, PowerShell required
• Strong troubleshooting, communication, and documentation skills
• Demonstrated ability to lead cross functional technical initiatives and coordinate delivery
Preferred qualifications
• Infrastructure as Code experience using Terraform or Bicep
• Experience supporting Azure DevOps deployment pipelines or CI/CD workflows
• Experience with Azure Backup and Azure Site Recovery
• Experience implementing multi region resiliency and DR strategies
• Experience with Cisco Meraki network equipment including firewalls, switches, and access points
• Relevant certifications such as Azure Administrator, Azure Solutions Architect, or similar
