HireArt is helping an on-demand, autonomous ride-hailing company hire an Autonomous Vehicle Engineer to be actively engaged in the operational uptime of the company fleet.
In this role, you'll diagnose complex hardware/software-related issues impacting live fleet operations, interface with cross-functional engineering teams to drive resolution, act as an escalation point for field technicians, capture the troubleshooting details, and place them in the internal knowledge database to support future recovery and root-cause analysis. This role will require flexibility to work nights or weekends as needed with advanced notice.
We are looking for someone who has a bachelor's degree and a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience (e.g., transportation, aerospace, or autonomous vehicles). Ideally, you have experience with electric vehicle technology and remotely supporting vehicle troubleshooting in an operations-driven environment.
As Autonomous Vehicle Engineer, You'll
• Act as the point of contact for real-time escalation from technicians on fleet issues with a focus on restoring vehicle uptime quickly.
• Document, amend, and maintain a troubleshooting guide for all technicians to use as faults are diagnosed or resolved, including lessons learned from post-incident reviews.
• Establish diagnostic procedures to expedite troubleshooting in the future and reduce mean time to repair (MTTR).
• Provide historical review of vehicle/fleet data, parsing/interpreting vehicle logs and their physical implications.
• Work with engineering design to improve tooling and detection of issues.
• Work to implement effective countermeasures across the fleet following field recovery.
• Define/capture required data points to validate issue resolution.
• Occasionally travel within the U.S. to support various operational locations.
Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Automotive Engineering
• 8+ years of relevant experience in transportation, aerospace, or autonomous vehicles
• Experience supporting perception systems and vehicle sensors (e.g., cameras, radar, lidar), including diagnostics, validation, and field troubleshooting in an operational fleet environment
• Experience with low/high voltage circuits, Unified Diagnostic Services (UDS), and experience on how to safely troubleshoot
• Understanding of hardware and software systems architecture, communications, and support in an operations setting, including real-time field support
• Embraces a holistic problem-solving approach to identifying issues with high-level vehicle functions and drives specific resolution into single components, balancing speed and long-term root cause
• Self-starter with the ability to build relationships across the company
• Ability to comprehend schematics, electrical diagrams, and connector end views/pinouts to guide hands-on diagnostics and component replacement
• Must be able to pass a background check
• Have availability for nights or weekends as needed with advanced notice
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with electric vehicle technology
• Experience with remotely supporting vehicle troubleshooting
• Hands-on experience with vehicle hardware, including sensor or component replacement in the field
• Experience with Linux and Python-based programming systems for fleet-level data processing
• Experience with software that interfaces with hardware
