Job Title: API Engineer Department: Technology Reports to: CTO Location: Houston, TX - Hybrid Schedule General Position Description We are seeking an API Engineer to join our Technology team and play a key role in designing, building, and maintaining scalable APIs that support both internal systems and external integrations. This is an individual contributor role requiring deep hands-on experience with API engineering using Python and AWS-based cloud services. The ideal candidate brings strong technical judgment, a passion for building reliable and high-performing services, and the ability to collaborate closely with product managers and technology team in an Agile environment. Key Responsibilities • Design, develop, and maintain secure, scalable, and high-performing APIs (REST, GraphQL, and event-driven as appropriate) using Python • Build APIs that support both internal platform capabilities and external/customer-facing integrations • Leverage AWS cloud services to deploy, monitor, and scale API solutions • Collaborate closely with product managers, engineers and cross-functionally to translate business requirements into technical solutions • Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines to ensure efficient, reliable deployments • Optimize API performance, scalability, and availability, including monitoring and troubleshooting production issues • Apply best practices for API versioning, documentation, security, and observability • Participate actively in, technical design discussions and code reviews Qualifications • 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, with significant focus on API development • Strong experience building APIs using Python • Hands-on experience working in AWS cloud environments • Solid understanding of RESTful design, GraphQL, and/or event-driven architectures • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing frameworks, and modern development workflows • Proven ability to design systems for performance, scalability, and reliability • Experience working in Agile/Scrum development environments • Strong collaboration and communication skills; comfortable working cross-functionally • No degree required; demonstrated experience and technical capability are paramount Employment Eligibility Only applicants currently eligible to work in the United States will be considered for this position.
