About the Role
The AI Governance, Compliance & Ethics Specialist is responsible for ensuring that all AI systems and use cases meet ethical, regulatory, and governance standards, enabling trustworthy and responsible AI.
Responsibilities
• Ensure all AI systems and use cases meet ethical, regulatory, and governance standards, enabling trustworthy and responsible AI.
• Embed ethical-by-design principles into AI initiative lifecycles, reducing re-work, compliance risks, and deployment delays.
• Provide cross-functional leadership on ethical AI practices by working directly with architects, data scientists, and business owners throughout design, development, and monitoring stages.
• Oversee implementation of risk assessments, transparency documentation, fairness evaluations, and continuous monitoring of AI models.
• Develop and implement AI governance frameworks, policies, and standards to ensure responsible, transparent, and ethical AI development and deployment across DCD.
• Engage early with architects, data scientists, AI specialists, and the project manager to embed ethical and governance requirements into model design, data sourcing, architecture decisions, and implementation plans.
• Monitor AI systems for compliance with regulatory requirements, industry guidelines, data protection laws, and internal governance policies.
• Conduct AI risk assessments, including fairness, bias, explainability, accountability, privacy, and societal impact evaluations.
• Establish ethical AI guardrails and ensure all AI initiatives align with organizational values, legal expectations, and international best practices.
• Collaborate with technical teams to evaluate and validate high-risk use cases, models, and algorithms before approval and deployment.
• Define and oversee model documentation requirements—model cards, data sheets, audit logs, traceability, transparency reports, and lifecycle documentation.
• Develop auditing and monitoring mechanisms to detect drift, misuse, bias, and performance degradation throughout the model lifecycle.
• Oversee responsible data usage practices, ensuring lawful data sourcing, appropriate privacy controls, quality labelling, and consent management.
• Conduct training, awareness, and capability-building programs to instill responsible AI practices across the AI team and DCD units.
• Stay current with global and UAE AI regulatory developments, advising leadership on upcoming standards and compliance implications.
• Support the division manager in making informed decisions about ethical risks, mitigation strategies, and compliance considerations for AI initiatives.
Qualifications
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Data Science, AI/ML, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Law, Ethics, or a related field.
• 6+ years of experience in AI governance, data governance, compliance, risk management, or responsible AI initiatives.
• Strong understanding of AI ethics principles, fairness/bias detection, explainability, model transparency, and responsible AI frameworks.
• Knowledge of global AI regulations and standards (e.g., UAE AI Act, OECD AI Principles, ISO/IEC 42001, data protection and privacy laws).
• Experience working with cross-functional teams (legal, data, security, engineering) to evaluate, approve, and monitor AI models and high-risk use cases.
• Strong analytical, documentation, and communication skills with the ability to translate complex AI concepts into governance and compliance requirements.
