POSITION SUMMARY: The Director, PGME Program Administration is responsible for providing strategic operational leadership and guidance to the School of Medicine in support of the development and operations of quality post-graduate medical education (residency) programs. The Director is responsible for ensuring the operational alignment and effectiveness of developed programs toward meeting the stated mandates, required programmatic objectives, and accreditation requirements. This role plays a critical part in the development and long-term sustainability of the School’s success by recommending and establishing standards and frameworks and supporting the operationalization of teaching and learning support networks and diverse learning methods in a workplace-based, experiential setting in health care. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Provides strategic operational leadership and guidance in the development of post-graduate (residency) programs for the School of Medicine by: • Working closely with the Associate Dean, PGME and PGMEC, oversee the administration and implementation of all residency programs. • Collaborating with and providing strategic counsel to faculty and other staff leaders on the development of PGME program frameworks including but not limited to creation and interpretation of learning outcomes, assessment tools, and policies that support inclusive learning environments for underrepresented groups. • Collaborating with and providing strategic counsel to Faculty and direction to other staff on the development and refinement of the School’s operations, program delivery, pedagogical methods, and assessment strategies to ensure it aligns with the School’s mission, goals, and accreditation standards. • Working closely with Associate Deans, Faculty, and other staff leaders to ensure the residency programs and their components map to the required learning outcomes, pedagogical goals, technical delivery and accreditation requirements with a lens of removing systemic programmatic deficiencies and promoting cultural safety for all learners. Provides strategic leadership and guidance in the establishment of foundational programmatic development frameworks and systems for the School of Medicine by: • Developing, in consultation with the Associate Dean, PGME and PGMEC, governance standards, educational frameworks, policies, and procedures related to programs for the establishment of the School that meets best practices and promotes an inclusive and culturally safe learning environment. • Working closely with the Director, Assessment and Academic Success to ensure the design, implementation and establishment of assessment frameworks and assessment methods can accurately evaluate the effectiveness of programs in meeting learning outcomes, accreditation requirements and other required standards that support the removal of systemic deficiencies and barriers for learners. • Develop policies and processes for curriculum approval and facilitating this process through required internal channels and required governing bodies. • Working closely with the Director, Evaluation and Continuous Quality improvement to support the completion of programmatic evaluations, development of action plans for areas of improvement, overseeing implementation of action plans approved by faculty committees, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement. • Collaborating with Associate Dean’s and staff leaders to use data-driven insights and professional development opportunities around current evidence-based best practices in learning and teaching to spur innovation. • Contributing to a vision of research-informed teaching and assessment practices and an understanding of the challenges, opportunities and advances in learning and teaching in Canada and internationally, especially as pertains to a multicultural campus and the School’s stated mission. • Remaining current on the latest research and innovative practices in the field of post-graduate medical education, including the development of programs and educational settings that promote an inclusive and culturally safe learning environment for learners. • Establishing a community of practice with external partners including with other Canadian medical schools, national and provincial regulatory bodies and resident physician professional associations, post-secondary partners within BC, BC health authorities and Indigenous community leaders to support the ongoing program development at the School. QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree in Education, Business, or a related discipline, with (10) years of related experience in managing educational program development, with a focus on program operations, evaluation, pedagogy and teaching at a post-secondary institution or health care setting, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. • Excellent knowledge of educational theory principles of effective practice in undergraduate and graduate teaching and knowledge of effective curriculum development using various delivery modalities. • Excellent administrative and financial management skills. • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, team-building, collaboration, and project management skills. • Excellent change and conflict resolution management skills. • Knowledge of best practices of English as an Additional Language support. • Knowledge of best practices for decolonizing and Indigenizing courses and curricula. • Knowledge of education pedagogy and best practices, particularly in workplace-based/experiential settings. • Current knowledge of learning technology opportunities in curriculum and course design.
