Sr. to Lead Applied Machine Learning Engineer - LLMs - Consumer Generative AI Startup Location: Mountain View, CA The company is building a consumer product that involves generative AI. The company's team is comprised of industry veterans with experience in building and scaling many 0 to 1 successful consumer products. The Founder was previously the VP of Engineering of a $100+ billion public company, and prior to that was an engineering leader for widely used products at Google. Much of the team is from Google, Twitter, Coinbase, and top startups. The company has raised a very large round of seed funding from leading investors. It has about 25 employees and 20 engineers, has roughly doubled in less than 6 months, and is rapidly growing. The company will pay a salary up to $250k, plus equity which could be very lucrative. Job Responsibilities: - Research (about 10-30% of the time) - Following and understanding recent trends in GenAI developments, and how they may apply the company's product direction. - Designing, building, and maintaining LLM applications. - Owning the ML lifecycle, including data analysis and processing, model architecture and training, metrics/evaluation, and MLOps. - Conveying complex technical information at different levels, including to other LLM experts and non-AI practitioners. - Working closely with product engineers, designers, and data scientists to define and build cutting edge AI solutions across the company. Qualifications: - Expertise in modern LLM architectures and applications, with experience using GenAI approaches in an applied, production environment. - A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Math, or a related field. - Expertise in machine learning, with a track record of deploying AI models in real-world applications. - Strong understanding of machine learning algorithms and data structures. - Excellent coding skills. - Proficiency in Python. - Familiarity with libraries such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, NumPy, and JAX. - Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to clearly articulate design decisions and rationale. - Strong analytical skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. Nice to have: - Authored or co-authored research papers in reputable AI/ML venues, or impactful technical blog posts. - Active participation in relevant open-source repos, Kaggle competitions, and similar projects. - Startup experience. - A Ph.D. or similar experience.
