Senior AI Agent Engineer Location: San Francisco Bay Area, CA (Hybrid – with ability to travel to office as needed) Salary: $175k - $200k About the Opportunity This is a unique opportunity to join an innovative AI-focused company redefining how autonomous agents integrate with enterprise systems. The company is building modular, composable AI agents that leverage cutting-edge protocols and distributed architectures to deliver intelligent, scalable solutions for complex enterprise workflows. Why This Role Is Exciting You will work on next-generation AI agents that communicate via industry-standard protocols (A2A, MCP) and integrate seamlessly with orchestration platforms. The role offers exposure to enterprise-scale distributed systems, microservices, vector databases, and LLM-powered AI agents, enabling you to shape the architecture and implementation of systems that redefine human-digital collaboration. Key Responsibilities • Implement modular AI agents conforming to A2A and MCP protocols based on architectural specifications. • Build agents with composable, reusable capabilities for integration into orchestrated workflows. • Develop agent architectures that consume MCP-compliant services for databases, APIs, and external tools. • Ensure fault-tolerant, resilient agent designs with circuit breakers, retry logic, and graceful failure handling. • Lead performance optimizations and resource management for scalable multi-agent orchestration. • Collaborate with architects, product teams, and evaluation specialists to ensure high-quality deployment and continuous improvement. Required Experience & Skills • 5+ years of combined experience in microservices architecture and AI/ML systems. • 4+ years leading distributed system implementations with REST, GraphQL, gRPC, or message-driven architectures. • Hands-on experience with OpenTelemetry, distributed tracing, monitoring, and observability in production environments. • 1+ years of experience building AI agents using A2A, MCP, or similar industry-standard protocols. • Production experience with vector databases (FAISS, Pinecone, Weaviate, Qdrant) for AI agent memory and retrieval. • Practical experience integrating agents with LLMs, prompt engineering, and context-aware workflows. • Strong programming skills in Python (async/await, event-driven programming), with Go or Rust as a bonus. • Familiarity with container orchestration (Kubernetes, Docker) and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP). • Proven ability to implement modular, composable agents that integrate into complex distributed workflows. Professional Traits • Proactive, self-motivated, and able to work independently without micro-management. • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. • Comfortable in fast-paced startup environments, adaptable to new technologies and evolving priorities. • Collaborative mindset with the ability to lead cross-functional technical initiatives. • Ownership mentality with a bias for action and solution-oriented thinking. Nice to Have • MS or PhD in Computer Science, Distributed Systems, or related field with multi-agent systems focus. • Open-source contributions to agent frameworks, distributed systems, or orchestration platforms. • Experience with agent protocol standard development or enterprise orchestration integration. • Previous startup or big tech experience working with large-scale distributed systems. Why You Should Be Excited • Work on composable, intelligent AI agents at the forefront of enterprise AI adoption. • Collaborate with experienced teams of AI, infrastructure, and product experts in a fast-growth, high-impact environment. • Directly influence architecture and implementation decisions for multi-agent systems powering the next generation of AI orchestration. Application Note: Must have legal authorization to work in the U.S without sponsorship. and be able to travel to San Francisco for on-site collaboration as required.
