We are seeking a Data Engineer Intern to join one of BAM’s Consumer Equity Long/Short investment teams for summer 2026. In this role, you will work directly with portfolio managers, analysts, and our Data Engineering team to deliver data driven insights that will be leveraged in the research and investment process. You will design, develop, and maintain data infrastructure that supports the team’s investment research and decision-making. You will be responsible for building and managing infrastructure, data systems and user interfaces that enable effective management, analytics, and reporting for large, complex datasets. You will also collaborate closely with the investment team to understand their data requirements, deliver actionable insights, and ensure data integrity. This opportunity is available in our New York office. Responsibilities • Develop and deploy data pipelines and workflows in the cloud to support investment research and portfolio analytics • Create data models and infrastructure for a wide variety of market, fundamental, and alternative datasets • Design and build services and plugins to enhance the investment team’s data platform • Participate in data architecture discussions with investment professionals • Maintain alerting systems to ensure smooth day-to-day operations for critical datasets • Author tests to validate data quality and the stability of the platform • Help document and maintain internal processes and data management policies • Work with portfolio managers and analysts to understand their data requirements and provide guidance on data usage • Monitor and review data collection, data quality, and data cleansing infrastructure • Explore ways to improve data evaluation processes and ensure data integrity • Identify and document any data-related issues and communicate them to the appropriate stakeholders • Communicate insights through compelling data visualizations tailored to investment use cases • Develop a user interface for easy deployment, modification and ad hoc work by team members. Qualifications & Requirements Pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in data science, computer science, engineering, or a related quantitative field with a graduation date of December 2026 – Spring 2027. • Outstanding programming skills: SQL and Python experience is required (Pandas experience is a plus) • Experience with data wrangling, cleaning, and data-driven application deployment • Experience with data architectures, data modeling, and database design principles • Experience working in and with containers; familiarity with Kubernetes • Familiarity with ETL tools and data ingestion techniques • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills • Excellent communication skills • Ability to work independently and collaborate with cross-functional teams, especially investment professionals • Working knowledge of various relational and NoSQL databases is a plus • An understanding of financial instruments, securities, and market data is a plus • Bonus points for experience with AWS or other cloud-based services, Visual Studio, Snowflake, GitHub, Astronomer Airflow (Automated Scheduler), Jenkins, Coder/ExCD, and PowerBI
