OverviewHemlane is looking for a Senior UX/UI Designer to join our rapidly growing company. Our platform changes the way rental properties are managed. We provide rental owners with the only tech-enabled solution in the space that can deliver a full-service property management experience at a fraction of the cost.
For this role, we’re looking for a team player who has a track record in executing on UX/UI Design at other venture-backed firms (from Seed to Series D preferred).
We work in a fast-paced environment, with a high-performing team of engineers, account managers, and operations specialists. Most of our team is spread between our 2 offices in San Francisco (SOMA) and Calgary, Canada (Belt Line) with remote team members as well.
Residential property management is a deceptively complex and fascinating business with a diverse ecosystem of users. This market has traditionally been served by low tech solutions and a lot of labor. Hemlane offers software as a service (SaaS) that sets a new bar for residential management, empowering landlords to manage their rental properties from anywhere. Delighting customers is core to our strategy and we’re looking for someone to lead the design of new products.
Valuable products are useable productsParticipate in all phases of product in close collaboration with product managers and engineers, including assessing opportunities, discovering and validating solutions, product delivery, and optimization. Gain a deep understanding of our customers and why our product is valuable to them. Understand the relationship between achieving Hemlane’s business objectives and delivering exceptional value to our customers.
UX is more than digital interactionsA Product Designer at Hemlane considers the end-to-end user experience and deeply understands our customers’ workflows. Identify where in our customers’ workflow Hemlane should integrate seamless touch points (web, mobile, desktop, SMS, email, etc.).
Product teams discover and validate solutionsCollaborate early and often with product managers and engineers to discover solutions that are viable, valuable, feasible, and usable. Lead collaborative Lean UX activities such as design studios and story mapping. Support the team as needed with flow diagrams and rapid prototypes to help communicate and validate design ideas.
User research and testing are a continuous practiceConstantly learn, test, and refine ideas with real users & customers. Facilitate user research. Conduct value tests for ideas with rapid prototypes. Design and run moderated and unmoderated usability tests for proposed solutions and existing product capabilities.
ResponsibilitiesGather and evaluate user requirements in collaboration with product managers and engineersIllustrate design ideas using storyboards, process flows and sitemapsDesign graphic user interface elements, like menus, tabs and widgetsBuild page navigation buttons and search fieldsDevelop UI mockups and prototypes that clearly illustrate how sites function and look likeCreate original graphic designs (e.g. images, sketches and tables)Prepare and present rough drafts to internal teams and key stakeholdersIdentify and troubleshoot UX problems (e.g. responsiveness)Conduct layout adjustments based on user feedbackAdhere to style standards on fonts, colors and images
RequirementsHave read Inspired by Marty Cagan and practiced in the principles of Lean UXAdvanced proficiency with design and prototyping tools such as Figma, XD, Axure, etc.Portfolio of exceptional interaction design skills for desktop and mobileMinimum 3 years of professional experience in user experience designIntermediate proficiency of HTML/CSSExperience partnering with engineers to deliver exceptional product design within the constraints of existing technology frameworks
LocationSF preferred but open to Remote. We have an office in Mid-Market that we meet at 1 to 2 days a week.
