It aims at providing the most seamless customer experience possible (buying cover, amending cover, claiming and being paid in case of damage). The customers know what they pay for; they pay the right price and don't pay for things they don't need. umbrl will go live in May/June 2024. Meanwhile, we are expanding our team, with positions available either at our London office or with remote work flexibility About 80Tech Founded in 2015, 80Tech is a privately held tech company focusing on quantitative risk analysis. It is the head office function of several Insurance/Reinsurance, Technology Infrastructure and Asset Management businesses. 80Tech serves as a seed investor for early-stage start-ups within the insurance sector, and is sponsoring umbrl. The Role As a Backend Engineer at umbrl, you will have the opportunity to research, conceive and develop applications to create, extend and improve our home insurance application. As a critical member of the early stages of our backend team, you will play a pivotal role in developing cutting-edge systems for umbrl. For example, you will: • Design, develop, and maintain backend solutions for umbrl. • Manage various data feeds and integrate them into our systems. • Create and optimize synchronous and asynchronous services in Python, interfacing with GCP Pub/Sub for efficient data consumption. • Write and maintain unit and end-to-end tests. • Participate in code reviews to ensure code quality and reliability. • Use Cloud SQL (PostgreSQL) for efficient data storage and retrieval. • Use Redis as a caching mechanism to enhance system performance and response times. • Implement the best practices for error handling, logging, and monitoring. • Implement data pipelines to transfer data from GCP Pub/Sub to our data warehouse, maintaining data integrity and ensuring analytics readiness.
