New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) seeks to appoint a Research Data Scientist I reporting directly to the Senior Director, Center for Research Computing.
The Research Data Specialist will part of a team that provides researchers and faculty with Data Analytics, Data visualization, Data Management, coding & development and support on the use of AI. Additionally, this role will offer computational research data science consultancy through professional services and collaboration.
• *Key Responsibilities**:
- Working with faculty and researchers to advance their research work by providing Data analytics and research analysis support
- Assist researchers with Data management including big data, data mining and database support and development
- Support and advise researchers on Data visualization
- Working with faculty and researchers to support researchers use of AI including NLP and Machine Learning
- Support researchers with coding and algorithm development
- Conduct training, engagement and outreach to the researcher and faculty community
Qualifications:
• *Required Education**:
- Bachelor’s degree +5 years’ experience (or educational equivalent) in Computational Science, Statistics, computational social science or equivalent
• *Preferred Education**:
- M.Sc. degree or higher + 3 years’ experience (or educational equivalent) in relevant discipline
• *Required Experience**:
- Experience in understanding researcher requirements and translating those requirements into functional and dependable solutions
- Experience working with data science programming languages like Python, R and C++
- Experience data management and big data
- Experience in data visualization
- Experience in Machine Learning, NLP and AI
- Professional experience working on complex projects in research environments
- Strong programming skills in relevant programming languages e.g. Python, C++, Java etc.
- Knowledge of scientific analysis, statistical methods and computer related research design and statistical analysis
- Knowledge of visualizing research data and familiarity with data visualization tools e.g. Tableau etc.
- Knowledge of data managing including data collection, organization and cleansing
- Proficiency in using query languages e.g. SQL
- Knowledge of NoSQL databases e.g. MongoDB
- Knowledge of standard statistical packages such as R, STATA etc.
- Knowledge of with Big data and data mining tools e.g. Hadoop, Apache Spark
- Ability to clearly communicate technical concepts to non-technical audience
- Ability to keep up to date with technological advances
- Ability to work in a team-based environment and contribute positively to it
- Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team
- Ability to work with individuals at all levels and diplomatically manages their expectations
- Creative problem-solving abilities and initiatives
- Strong organizational skills
- Strong presentation and report writing skills
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and analytical skills are essential
- Ability to manage conflicting priorities in an effective and professional manner
• *Preferred Experience**:
- Experience in a higher education research institution, especially developing and/or supporting research
- Knowledge of one or more software source code control systems
- Knowledge of Linux and Windows system administration
