PRELOADED is seeking a Lead Game Designer with a great track record for creating compelling games in a LiveOps environment. As Game Designer you will take a lead on all aspects of the design, ensuring that the creative intent is being realised and that the player experience is being advocated.
We are looking for someone who is a ‘Generalist’ designer; well equipped in designing compelling core loops, metagame, story, mechanics, systems, user interface and level design. You are technically capable and happy to work into the engine directly. You have experience working with a LiveOps game, knowing how to transform insights into actions every step of the way.
The Lead Game Designer reports to the Head of Designer. This is a hybrid role, requiring a minimum 2 days a week in our Finsbury Park Studio.
We are an equal opportunity employer and welcome applicants from all backgrounds.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL:
• Be experienced in operating as a lead designer, working in a highly collaborative multidisciplinary team.
• Possess a broad level of game design experience working across different aspects of design.
• Understand how to operate a LiveOps game, owning all aspects of design for features and content updates (Including core mechanics, UX, level design, balancing).
• Be well versed in LiveOps games, having worked across relevant features and content (such as events, feature updates, content updates and QoL).
• Know how to understand and interpret insights and turn them into actionable tasks.
• Be experienced with running and observing playtesting sessions.
• Have the technical ability to work directly in-engine as necessary.
• Have excellent communication skills in presenting designs to internal and external stakeholders.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
• Design leadership: Own the day-to-day design of the game whilst helping steer the design of another project (with its own designer).
• Technical implementation: Work directly in-engine as necessary (UEFN) to support the core development team with the completion of design related tasks.
• Design communication: Communicate design intent to project team and key stakeholders (internal and external) through clear and concise design documentation and presentations.
• Team communication: Attend daily stand ups, be available to discuss design intent and unblock the team as necessary.
• Sprint planning: Be involved in planning out sprints, generating appropriate tasks and estimating them.
ABOUT THE HIRING PROCESS
You will meet the Head of Design, along with someone from our Production and/or Leadership team for a 1 hour chat to assess how your experience and skills meet the role outlined, and what you can bring to the team. In this interview we’ll also give you an insight into our values and culture and hear more about how you like to work and play as part of a team. This is also an opportunity for you to clarify any aspect of the role, or our studio, to make sure the fit is right for you, too.
If your skills line up, there may be a second round chat with individuals from the project team itself. In some circumstances there may be a dedicated task to complete before the second round.
We will provide key questions in advance of the interview so you have time to prepare, and make sure that you are always interviewed by as diverse a team as possible.
Interviews are a two way thing so please prepare any questions you have for us too!
Applications for this role close on 19th January 2024, with an intended start date of mid-February.
